IT TR AND LOSES IN TWO Michigan broke even ; in her two1 hockey games with Wisconsin and No- tre Dame, defeating Wisconsin 6-3, and losing to Notre Dame in an over-] time game by 7-4. The condition ofl the ice at Wisconsin was bad, slowingE up the game, and also injuring Michi- gan's fine teamwork which had been] her big factor before. At Notre Dame, the game was a nip and tuck affair from start to finish. Michigan's teamwork was better than Notre Dame's, but the Catholics had the faculty of making their shots at goal count. The first period ended in Notre Dame's favor, 1-0, when the puck, bouncing from the bank board, acci- dentally hit a Michigan player's pads, and bounded into goal. In the second, period the score was 2-all, Barkell making both goals for Michigan. The third period was the most exciting of the whole game. With but two min- utes to play, and the score tied at 3-3, two Michigan players were penalized for holding. Michigan had only four men on the floor when Notre Damel L Ub1u u pn. r au ulCU UL~ minute and a half of play. Only 30 seconds remained when Barkell took the puck from the face-off and in a pretty combination with MacDuff scor- ed the tying goal which caused over- time play. The overtime period was played in semi-darkness, making it hard to see the puck. Notre Dame was able to put the game, on ice by scoring 3 goals in this 10 minutes. The lineups. Trailing closeE behind with a like number of wins but' with one more defeat is Minnesota,, while Wisconsin and Illinois with four victories and two defeats, each, are tied for third place. Purdue Plays Only Nine Games Purdue holds a decided advantage over her opponents in that it plays but nine Conference games this sea- son, six having already been con- tested. Of its three remainig games, Illinois is the only dangerous team to be faced by the Boilermakers, lit- tle doubt being entertained as to the outcome of the contests with Chicago and Indiana, although the Hoosiers may cause some trouble. All of these games are to be played at Lafayette, Purdue's home floor,. a fact which is decidedly in favor of the Boilermak- ers, considering the fact that they have lost but one fray there in recent years. Minnesota's only chance to win the championship depends mainly on the outcome of the Illinois-Purdue; game, a Purdue defeat meaning their being put out of the running. The Gophers play 12 games and victories in their four remaining battles will be needed to come out on top, in the event of Purdue's defeat. .Wisconsin Tumbles Wisconsin furnished no little sur- prise by dropping its game with the lowly Hawkeyes last Monday by the score of 24 to 1. The Badgers, hither- to prime favorite for titular honors, showed up so miserably the other night that few predictions are being made as to the probable outcome of their game with Michigan at Water- man gymnasium on Saturday night. Wisconsin's quintet barely defeated the Wolverines at Madison earlier in the season, an overtime period being required to decide the tide of the bat- tle. Mather's men, now out of the running, are determined to redeem themselves and looc to the Wisconsin game as the first step. A hard battle is expected. Illinois' basketeers, in spite of the loss of their star, Walquist, have been showing up exceptionally well in the last few games. The Indians have six more games to play this season, the most important one being that with Purdue. The Urbanites succeeded in defeating the Boilernakers on their own floor early in the season, by a scant margin of one point. Whether or not they will be able to repeat at Lafayette is indeed problematical. A victory here, in addition to triumphs in their other six games, will give them a hold for premier' honors, but that is a huge task for any team.# Chicago and Indiana Tied Chicago and Indiana, with 3 victo- ries and 3 defeats each, are tied for fifth place, while Ohio State is the lone claimant of the seventh position. Iowa and Michigan, with but two victories and four defeats, are tied for eighth, while Northwestern's whitewashed five seems firmly entrenched in the eel- ..llllu 111ll l nllllll ll11l l111111!lulutuilllllll lllll i llilut " White Popi Shirts Ia = Collar Attached - - - Atkinson's Irish Poplin Ties E ri1 N.
