But, although these two men must be replaced, Mather has five other letter men to act as a nucleus for the new quintet this year. Capt. "Bud" Rea will again be seen at guard, and his long; half-court shots 'will go a long way in building up the Michigan scores. Whitlock nd Miller should handle the forward positions in a cap- able manner, and "Duke" Dunne will no doubt be Back at center, although he will be unable to report for prac- tice until the latter part of next month when-the football season is completed. LeGally is a good bet for the other guard position if he keeps up the good work that he began in the games last year. Championship Prospects Bright From the reserves Piper and Rea- son appear to be good, and other can- didates will probably show promise: when they appear on .the court next week. Varsity Mentor Makes No Ching in Team Which Began Against Mt. Union Last Saturday FRESHMEN LOSE TO VARSITY IN FAST SCR JIMAGE 20-. Coach Yost will use the same line-up against Case on Saturday that he be- gan against Mt. Union. Practice dur- ing the week has failed to uncover any men more entitled to go against the Clevelanders than the original 11 who started last Saturday after- noon. The line-up will therefore be Kirk at left end, Cappon at left tackle, Dunne at left guard, Vick at center, Wilson at right guard, Muirhead at right tackle, and Goebel at right end. The backfield will see Banks at quar- ter, Steketee at fullback, Usher, and Kipke at the halves. Substitutions will certainly see Roby, Uteritz, and Dean in the backfield; while Fair- bairne, Swan, Petro, Van Orden, Mar- tin, and a number of others will see service on the line. Case Unknown As yet, Case has not announced the team that will oppose the Varsity, nor has it been possible to learn much about the Ohio team. They have scor- ed a victory over Akron so far with a score of 14-0. Other thanthat lit- tle information has been available. Coach Yost does not anticipate as stiff a game with them as he does against M. A. C. the following week. They are thought to be just a little strong- er than was Mt. Union. Yesterday afternoon was. again given over to scrimmage with the freshmen. The Varsity mentor threw a little stronger team against the first year squad than he did on Tues- day. The result was therefore some- what'different than two days ago. The Varsity ran over the freshen for three touchdowns in the couse of the 35 minute tussle. After the third touchdown, time was not taken to kipk the goal and the score stood at .20-0. XipkeStars The Varsity lacked fight and ag- gressiveness at first but with the cn-1 stant pushing of the coaches at its back finally showed more strength. The team which began was made up of Dunphy left end, Cappon'left tac- kle, Van Orden left guard, Petro center, Crawforth right guard, Gar- field right tackle, Goebel right end, Banks quarter, Dean fullback, Uteritz and Kipke halfbacks. Naylor, the Var- sity candidate, was warming up in the pits just south of Waterman gymnas- ium clearing the bar at ten feet. A crowd of spectators were watching the performance when suddenly a youth in gym clothes asked for a trial with the Advanced SECRETARIAL TRAINING for Stenographers 'MON. & THURS. None in the crowd had ever heard or seen him before and the air. was full of mystery. Promising Pole Vaulter Soon Coach Farrell came out of the gymnasium and the veil was lifted. It seems that the youth, Prosser by name, is a member of the freshman class and hails from Montana. How- ever, he spent last year at Mercers- burg academy in Pennsylvania, and according to Steve, has pole vaulted 12 feet for that ixstitution. He came to Michigan without any outside aid at all; just wanted to go to Michigan..
