the present rural credit situation is
the lack of credit facilities for far-
mers, who want to borrow money for~
periods ranging from six months to
three years. The federal reserve bank
must keep its investments liquid, ab
well as safe. as it is a reserve for the
member banks. It mrust therefore re-
-,ract its investment to short-time
paper. The average maturity of fed-
eral reserve' bank loans is 15. days at
present," said Professor Calhoun."
