Percendes seemed unable to get started.j Foster and Kolts will meet today ina the one remainng game of the tour- nament but the result of their match will have no effect upon Byrne's po- sition as he has gone through the en- tire tourney undefeated, while Foster has lost one game. University Ave. CHICAGO'S COURT TEAM PREPARED FOR SEASON MAROONS UNDER DIRECTION OF TWO COACHES LOOK FORMIDABLE (By J. F. McGuire) Sports Editor, The Daily Maroon Under the guiding hands of Coaches Nels Norgren and Molander, the Uni- versity of Chicago basketball team is fast rounding into shape for the stren- uous campaign of the Conference sea- son. Four practice games have already been played which have given they coaches an excellent line on the Var- sity aspirants. 25 Men on Squad Forty men responded to the call for basketball candidates, and after two weeks of hard practices, the squad has' been reduced to 25. The coaches are reluctant to. predict a successful sea- son for the Maroons, for an entirely new team has to be built. The nucleus of last year's team, Birkhoff, Crisler. and Volmer, have been graduated. To offset this great loss the strength of the squad has been greatly augmented by the addition of "Milt" Romney, star on the University of Utah five of 1918; Johnny Bryan, who was a tower of strength on the U. of C., 1918 team; and Bruce Sheppherd, a flashy forward from Kalamazoo college. Halladay at Center The team will probably open the Conference season with Captain Bob Halla day at center; Bob Stahr, "C" man from last year, and Romney at the forward jobs; Mill McGuire, of the 1920 quintet, and Bryan or Cox at the guard jobs. Numerous practice games have been scheduled for the- Christmas vacation period. Colgate plays here on Dec. 31. Bits of Sport Coach Sullivan is now making plans for a boxing tournament to be held immediately after the opening of the second semester in February. This tourney will be open to the entire campus and it is hopedtthat a large number of men will enter. Round three of the handball tourna- ment was completed last week with the following results: Gehring de- feated Brucker, 5-0. The semi-finals will be run off today with the cham- pionship match being played tomorrow afternoon. Michigan Jewelry, Seals, Memory Books, etc., at Wahr's.-Adv.
