Robert Lawrence of New York City, organiz- ing director of the week, recently out- lined his plans before a group in- terested in community singing here and his project as outlined met with approval. Theaters Co-operate. The purpose of music week is to bring music to those in a. community who ordinarily would not be reached through regular channels such as the concerts in Hill auditorium. It is re- ported less than 7 per cent attend the big concerts and it is to the other 93 per cent this week is meant to reach. Co-operation in giving music to the public will be given by the theaters, the Majestic and Arcade already hav- ing promised to aid in the project, the churches with special musical services on Sunday, the schools, factories, clubs, such as the Rotary, Kiwanis clubs, hotels, and department stores. Concert Every Night. A music center will be established in Pattengill auditorium in the high school where five evening concerts with community singing will be given on every night in the week except Thursday, Oct. 20, when the concert in Hill auditorium by Erno Dohnanyi will be'given. Officers in charge of the movement were elected at a luncheon Thursday at the Union. They are: chairman, Hurlan Johnson; vice chairman, C. A. Sink; secretary, Kenneth Westerman, and treasurer, Roscoe Bonisteel. GAN DAILY Lngineering News A semi-Diessel, a vertical oil engine, a new centrifugal pump, and a steam engine of the Unafiow type are the new purchases for the mechanical- engineering labratory in the basement of the Engineering building. Professor Watson set up the 37%/ H. P. engine in the labratory this summer. It will be used in the regu- lar tets by the students of mechani- cal engineering 8 and also by ad- vanced students. Almost any kind of fuel oil can be used with the enginie. Research will be conducted, accord- ing to Prof. John E. Emswiler, with various kinds of oil and at different speeds.: It will be about a month before the centrifugal pump, will arrive, as it is now being constructed at Otswego, New York. It will be close to two :months before the Tenafiow engine with its condenser will get here. On its arrival the unit will be used in the tests in mechanical engineering 8. Washington, Oct. 1.-Four of the six classes that constitute the Naval reserve were virtually abolished yes- terday as a result of tfanorder from Edwin Denby,_ secretary of the navy,1 giving members of these classes the option of disenrollment or being trans- ferred to class six, without pay.
