Carson, '17, Given Honors At Oxford! Ralph M. Carson, '17, Michigan °Rhodes scholar at Oxford university, England, next year will achieve the highest honor that any man can gain in outside activities, with his proba- ble election to the presidency of the Oxford Union, according to Mr. G. D. Jeffersonn in his address before the senior engineers last night at the Michhgan Union. Mr. Jefferson was resident for some years at Oxford and told many inter- esting experiences of his stay there. After picturing the venerable environ- ment in the old English institution Mr. Jefferson went on to say that Carson was considered a "fine and es- teemed fellow" by all who knew him. The Oxford Union is a debating so. ciety, which has been since 1828-the I training ground for many of the most j distinguished statesmen of the British empire, so that Carson in assuming, the office of president of the Union will step into the place formerly oc-' cupied by such men as Gladstone, and Asquith.
