Y, DECEMBER 7, 1921 THE MICHIGAN DAILY SWIMMIN6 TEAM. BOOKS NEW MEITS Syracuse to Appear on Tank Schedule With Contest Taking Place in Orange Pool TENTATIVE ARRANGEMENTS MADE WITH OTHER SCHOOLS Three years' hopes of the Varsity swimming team for an Eastern meet have at last been realized in the sched- uling of Syracuse University of Syra- cuse, New York. The Orange boasts one of the strongest tank aggregations of the East, and will be met either on Feb. 8 or March 2. The former date is preferable provided final examina- tions will not interfere. M. A. C. on Schedule Two further meets for the tank squad have been announced by the Intramural department. 'The most important of these is the event with the Michigan Agricultural college squad on Feb. 18. The other is to be with Detroit Junior college, but has not yet been definitely arrangedT. Under the coaching of Southard T. Flynn, former star of the University of California and the San Francisco Olympic club, the Aggies are round- ing an excellent squad into shape and are expected to make the Wolverines go the limit to win. They have a par- ticularly strong list of dash men, but with such- swimmers as Valentine, ;Hyde, and Ullmann to represent the Maize and Blue, the local aggregation should be anything but weak. Two Events Not on Syracuse List Syracuse does not number either the breast stroke or back stroke among its list of events. This fact weakens the Wolverine chances con- siderably as Babcock and Hanson, in the former, and Hubbard and Hyde in the latter are rated among the best in this section of the country. Michigan's free style men, however, are the best. In the 220, Hubbard, Searle and Bab- cock ar excellent swimmers and are counted on to bring victory. Michigan is weak in the plunge, but Kearns, the only good man, makes the length of the pool regularly and in good time, while in the fancy dive the Wolverines count White and Mildner as leaders. The tentative swimming schedule for the year is as follows: Feb. 8, Syracuse at Syracuse; Feb. 18, M. A. C. at East Lansing; Feb. 25, Cleveland Central Y. M. C. A. at Cleveland; De- troit Junior college, no date arranged. There are also possiblities of meets with the Detroit Athleic club, De Pauw university, University of Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Athletic club. These aggregations have not yet been heard from. Meeting Tonight An important meeting of the swim- ming team is scheduled for 7:15 'o'clock tonight at the Union. G. War- ren Hyde, '25M, elected captain last year, has resigned because of the fact that his studies in the Medical school prevent him from devoting sufficient time to swimming. His successor is to be elected Ptonight. In addition, plans for the season will be discuss- ed at length. CLASS MANAGERS, NOTICE All class athletic managers should report to the Intramural office at once for instructions re- garding the interclass basketball and bowling schedules.
