Ground will be broken in a short time for the new Clements library, final arrangements having been made and the finished plans placed in the hands of the architect. The site of the new library is just west of the old Engineering building, facing. on South University avenue. The library will overlap 25 feet of the Enginering building, necessitating that part to be removed. Four class rooms, at present occupied by Prof. C. E. Love, of the mathematics departments, and his assistants, will be destroyed in accordance with this plan of pro- cedure. Due to the extreme scarcity of space for class meetings, it was nc- essary to seek another location to take the place of the rooms that will be destroyed. For a time this task presented an ugly problem to the building officials, but it has finally been settled in a satisfactory man- ner. Part of the Museum is being moved into the Thompson house, sit- uated directly across the street from the north end of the new Engineering building. The space that is left va- cant in the Museum will be utilized and turned into three, class rooms and IA office. The remainder of offices that are needed will be built in the Thompson house. Preliminary work of laying out the stakes has already been accomplish- ed, and all that is left now is to be- gin the actual construction work. Formal acceptance of these plans will be granted by the Board of Regents in their next meeting on Dec. 19. Communication The Editor, Michigan Daily. Dear Sir: - I notice in this morn- ing's Daily an account of my short talk before the Adelphi House of Representatives last Tuesday evening. The substance of my talk was not stated quite accurately. What I did say can be summarized as follows: World peace can be secured only by removing the causes of war and not b disarmament only. The Far Eastern question, if not rightly settled, will be one of the immediate causes of war; so it was brought up in the Disarma- ment Conference at Washington. China being the country much involved in the Far Eastern question needs the co-operation of the Powers and the opportunity to solve her problems by her own people. FENG C. LING. ARCHITECTURAL STUDENTS TO MAKE TRIP TO DETROIT Architectural students, accompan- ied by Prof. George M. McConkey and Prof. James B. Newman, of that de- partment, will spend Saturday in De- troit for the purpose of studying con- struction work in that city. The Henry Ford hospital, the new Cass Technical high school, the Edi- son service building; and the build- ings of the Detroit Municipal railway will be among the structures visited. Students in architectural construc- tion, especially, have been advised to accompany the party, which, how- ever, may include others interested. The group will leave on the 7 o'clock interurban tomorrow morning. In 1910 26 American colleges and universities showed an enrollment of more than 1,000 students.
