department is working in co-opera-
tion with the bowling committee of theI
Union, of which Walter Velde, '23, isI
chairman. Velde and W. F. Elliott, '23,
intramural manager, urge that all fra-
ternities prorate the cost of the com-
petition over the entire membership of
each organization, thus saving expense
to the individual players representing

ORIGINIPL ATES SHOWN
Designs on Exhibit at Wahr's Painted
by Lester
Costume plates for gowns that will
be used in the 1922 Union opera,
"Make It for Two", are now on exhi-
bition in~Wahr's bookstore on State'
street and, contrary to an impression
among students on the campus, are
the original plates made by Lester of
Chicago, the designer. A great va-
riety of colors and designs are rep-
resented on theplate, from the ab-
breviated garments of the chorus to
the long flowing robes of the members
of the cast.
Lester, who has always confined his
work to spectacular professional pro-
ductions up to this year, has been
working for some months on the cos-
tumes for the 1922 opera. The great-
er number have already arrived and
plates for the rest, similar to those
that are now on exhibition, are in the
hands of E. Mortimer Shuter, director
of the opera.

Challenging the young men and
women of this generation to service
4 and sacrifice in the cause of humani-
ty, Otto Mees, president of Capital
university, Columbus, O., delivered a
sermon upon "The Nation and Its
Youth" to the members of the Uni-
versity at the union Thanksgiving
services Thursday morning in Hill
auditorium.
During the years of the war the
youth of the world were called upon
for extraordinary ackievements and
sacrifices, and they responded satis-
factorily, according to Dr. Mees. Hu-
manity is making as great a demand
at present which must be offered as
ready a response as at that time, he
said. Steadfastness in Christian prin-
ciples and faith and loyalty to high
ideals on the part' of the youth of the
country are necessary to the progress
t of humanity, stated Dr. Mees.
Temptation is as strong today as it
ever was, he affirmed, and Is as well
able as ever to deflect the best in the
youth of the world. The only answer
to these challenges, according 'to the
speaker, is the whole-hearted deter-
mination of the young people of the
world to uphold the best ideals.
