Jewelers Main Street College Training Too Impractical, Say Auto Makers "Education should be made more practical," - was the consensus of opinion at the luncheon of the Hudson Motor company, Monday, according to Prof. A. E. White, director of the de- partment of engineering research, In an interview last week. "t is regretted that so many young nen enter industry to become execu- tives in the twinkling of an eye. They should have been instructed in! matters of administration, in produc- ticn methods, economics, and contract law, as well as in technical engineer- ing details. It is unwise to encourage specialization, because a very small percentage of the men remain in the line of work entered in college." "Mr. Herbert H. Rice, of the General Motors corporation, stated that he thought college men were placed in an embarassing position," continued Professor White. "The average col- lege man being a student, it takes some time to get in proper relation with the field. "It was rather strongly pointed out that the colleges must turn out broader men-men who realize that executives are made by months and years of hard work. It was the under- lying feeling that the men lacked in- struction in the lines of work which would teach them how to handle hu- man nature."
