UNIO6N PLAY HOUSE
1nemodeling Old Building Into Modern
Theater For'Use By
Students
WILL HOLD PRACTICES, GIVE
PRODUCTIONS IN WORKSHOP
Work has been progressing rapidly
during the past few days on the new
Union theater and according to pres-
ent plans the old Union will soon be
converted into a playhouse with a
seating capacity of 400 and a stage
able to accommodate standard size
scenery.
Will have All Essetials
From wall to wall the stage will
measure 50 feet and from the curtain
to the back wall will measure 30 feet.
The opening will be approximately 28
feet by 16 feet which is about the av-
erage.
There will be three dressing rooms
and a room for storing customes in the
basement, the old dining rooms being
remodeled for this purpose." The floor
of the 'old building will be slanted in
order to insure good vision fromany
angle in the audience, and such an ar-
rangement will also make it possible
to accommodate an orchestra of 16
pieces in the orchestra pit. Seats for
the new theater will be provided by
the University from the balcony of the
old University hall auditorium.
Entrance on Jefferson
A new entrance will be made in the
building on the east side near Jeffer-
son street and this will be the main
entrance and exit. The old door near-
er the Union on the east side will serve
only as an emergency exit.
For the first two months the new
theater will be used chiefly for opera
rehearsals and with this added equip-
nent the cast will be able to do all

the office of the Dean of Students,
Joseph A. Bursley.
All Classes of Work Desired
However, several hundred jobs have
been filled so far, Mrs. Stewart said,
and applications for student help are
slowly coming in. Board and room
jobs are the most in demand as is al-
ways the case, but there are applica-
tions for specialized work in the office
from a great variety of students, she
said.
Former bookkeepers, stenographers,
musicians, chauffeurs' and clerks lead
the list, while there are a few from
almost every walk of life among the
rest. Mrs. Stewart urged that people
who have any kind of work they wish
done, apply at the office of the Dean of
Students for help, as they will be al-

find the work they need.
S. C. A. Helps._
Applications for work and also for
student help are, coming in at Lane
hall, it was stated there yesterday,
and are being referred to. the Dean of
Students except such as can be handl-
ed immeriately without interferring
with the ,work of the University de-
partment.
