The battle, witnessed by a record breaking crowd of 42,000, was bitterly contested, and it was only by consistent work that the winning points were scored. Ferry Field, Oct. 22.-Ohio Band marched on field in single file. Both teams appeared on field early. Ohio lineup remains exactly as was played at Minnesota. Ohio band, of over 100 pieces with the red and grey capes flowing marched down the field. Michigan band entered and moved to east end of field. Both tears came out on the field for a short practice, after which they returned to the club house. Michign band paraded down center of the field. playing the "Victors," faced flag pole, and played the "Star Spangled l3an- ner" while the flag was raised. The chowd is estimated at 42,00,more than at any other field in the country, with the ex. ception of Yale and Harvard. Many alumni returned to the Universitybto watch the contest. The Ohio block of 6,000 seats was entirely filled. (By Thomas E. Dewley) The greatest crowd ever ,assembled for a football game in the West be- gan pouring through the gates of Ferry field today at 12:30 and at 2:30, thirty minutes before the starting whistle, standing room was filled, the stands were already a sea of faces and enthusiasm was running at high- est pitch. Lending dignity to the dedication of Michigan's new stadium and to the unveiling of the memorial to the Michigan war heroes, the governors of the states sending the two compet- ing football teams were in the stands; the largest crowd of rooters ever sent by another school to Michigan were filling 6000 seats in the North stand; and the greatest number of alumni ever assembled for a football game in Ann Arbor filled the town to overflowing.- Alumni and viitors began filling Ann Arbor last night and all through this morning automobiles, jammed trains, trucks, and "the bumpers" contributed to the growing assemb- lage of people that more than doubled the population of Ann Arbor for a day. And it was a jubilant but strangely serious crowd of- people, too, those who were back for the Homecoming, back for a, vacation, back for a great game, but first of all, back to Michigan WIN.
