The seven positions are being fought for consistently by all the linemen on the squad and Mather as yet has not been able to determine a combination which outranks any other to any great ex- tent. Practice on the yearling squad has been rather irregular owing to classes, minor injuries, and a host of other obstacles. Folding cot used five months in pri- vate home for sale at half price. VARIYIN FIGHTING TRIM, AS YOST GIVES MEN NEWPLAYSTO STOPBUCKEYES' VAUNTED DEENSE Michigan's football team is fighting. Practice this week has brought out more fight and determination than has been seen on Ferry field this year. The spirit of every man on the squad is gradually working up to a point where only a vastly superior team can down it. Drills such as that held yesterday afternoon are positive as- surance to every follower of the team that Michigan will fight to the last ditch. / ... .- Alumni Interest in the Returning big game increases as the day draws near. State St., Chicago returning to Ann Arbor several days early and a group of the loyal gradu- ates entertained the Varsity football squad and coaches at dinner last eve- ning at the Union. The entire squad of 35 men and the coaches will again be the guests of this body of alumni tonight, and again Saturday noon at lunch. In this way Michi- gan's graduates hope to bring the team even closer together than is possible on the field. A feeling of "oneness" will naturally result and the coaches -are enthusiastic over the spirit which the alumni is showing. Yost has been working on a de- fense for the much vaunted varied Ohio offense. His trip to Columbus last week gave him much material to work on. He saw many plays for which he has been working up effec- tive stops. Strangely enough, with so many scouts in the stands, Ohio opened tip with a vast number of tricks against Minnesbta. It is cer- tain that Yost has taught his men how to combat them. If Wilce has any more tricks up his sleeve, he has cer- tainly succeeded in teaching his team a great number of plays. Yost Gives New Plays At the same time he , has been showing his squad how to down the Ohio plays, the Varsity mentor has also been working on new plays and formations of his own. They are be- ing executed with a smoothness that is encouraging and the Michigan team will not be far behind the Scarlet and Gray in the matter of attack. Defen- sively, the Michigan team has been good. Ohio will probably outweigh the Varsity on the line. It was this part of the team which was so highly heralded during the early season. A backfield was Wilce's problem this year. Apparently he has partly solv- ed it in Workman, Stuart, Taylor, and Honaker. That the Michigan backfield still has an edge is gener- ally conceded, however. Yost will make no statement of any kind except that it will be a great fight. Informal Soccer Team to Play Flint Members of the Informal Soccer team are urgently requested to at- tend the meeting of the team to be held in room 319 of the Michigan Union at 7:30 tonight. At this meet- ing plans for the first gamge with Flint to be played on Oct. 29 will be, discussed. Arrangements will also be made for a mid-week game with Yp- silanti in order to enable prospective players to qualify for the two vacant positions on the team. The election of permanent officers occupies a place on the program and a large turnout is desired.
