Of this 59 the statistics how that 47 were co-eds, who would' zsually be the last ones in the world o accuse of such a cold hearted deed. this, together with the fact that the nen were absolutely sober, makes the xperiment all the more astounding. Syracuse--Officers for the next' ear's Freshman Bible have been lected and are already laying plans or the frosh book of next year. The naterial in the Bible covers every- hing from advice to freshmen, rules,' neans and woman's organizations, to' eneral information and data of laces of special interest near Syra- cuse. Next year a section of the Bible will be given over to a complete discussion of the Honor System so that the yearlings on entering the school may acquire an accurate in- sight into the workings of that insti- tution. ATHLETIC COACHES AUTHORS OF BOOK Coach E. J. Mather and Elmer D. Mitchell, director of the intramural department, are at present engaged in writing a book, the title of which is "Basketball." The book will contain slightly over 100 pages and will be il- lustrated with 60 pictures of various phases of play. In writing such a, volume, Coach Matier and Mr. Mitchell will under- take to place the playing and teach- ing of basketball on an understand- able basis. Using a large number of illustrations of both photographic and drawn type, they are planning on placing in this book complete details and instructions for play. Not only will the outline of methods be used, but detailed accounts of all phases of offensive and defensive tactics will be discussed Some of the fundamental requisites of teaching basketball are touched upon in another section of the work. Coach Mather has been actively in touch with the game as coach of the Varsity five for several years. Since his ascension to its head, the team has tied for the championship once and for second place last year. Elmer Mitchell was in charge of the basket- ball team before Mather was engaged, being especially adept in the theory of the game and kn devising new plays. Word has been received here by President M. L. Burton that Judge George A. Malcolm, '06L, judge in the supreme court of the Philippine Islands, has been granted an honor- ary degree of Doctor of Law by the University of Japan.
