CONFERENCE MEET NEXT FOR WOLVERINE RUNNERS MICHIGAN AND WISCONSIN WILL FIGHT FOR SECOND PLACE; ILLINOIS FRST Having won the last dual meet of the year from Chicago on May 20, the Wolverine track team is looking for- ward to the outdoor Conference meet which will be held at Des Moines, Ia., June 2 and 3. Illinois is conceded to have the best chances for first place ii the meet with Michigan and Wis- consin rated about equally for second place. By comparison of the scores made by the two schools in their meets with Illinois, Wisconsin appears appears to ,be slightly superior but the difference is not enough to war- rant a bet either way. Steve Farrell thinks, though, that the Wolverines have a slight shade over the Badgers and that they should come through in second place. Michigan has chances for first place in at least two events, the pole vault and javelin. If Landowski can come back and perform according to his old form, he can beat anybody else the Conference has to offer. If Hoff- man can continue his good work in the javelin he may be able to again defeat Angier, of Illinois, and inci- dentally set a new Conference record. Sargent is also depended upon to garner some points for Michigan in the hurdle events. Illinois points will most likely be garnered by such Men as Yates, in Low cost is ope of the pleasantest features of eating Sunday dinner at the Michigap Cafeteria.-Adv. : .. . ..!.. . ,. .r... Wisconsin will most likely look upon Sundt and Captain Knollin as their best point getters. Kansas will be represented by one of the most valu- ,ble athletes in the country in the person of Captain Everett Bradley, who has been high point winner In every meet that he has been in this season, including the +Illinois indoor Conference meet and the Drake re- lays. He will compete in the high hurdles, the broad jump, shot put and possibly in the javelin throw. He is capable of 23 feet, 10 inches in the broad jump and 45 feet, 1 3-4 inches in the shot put, Iowa is also conceded to have a chance of placing among the first three at the meet but unless they pro- duce. a dark horse at the last minute her hopes are not as good as those of the other teams. Last Saturday this team won the Iowa State meet with an imposing score. Brookers in the- hurdles and Wilson in the 220 yard dash are Iowa's strongest entries. The team showed su- periority during the entire play and succeeded in defeating the visitors by the decisive score of 12 to 0. The best ball foursome which was sched- uled to be played in the afternoon was called off because of the fact that the Northwestern players were obliged .to take an early train back. The remaining game on the sched- ule will be played with Chicago on -Monday. The Maroons are known to have a strong and well balanced team being the only team besides Michigan which has not gone down to deefat, so tomorrow the hopes for a cham- pionship rest with Captain Winters and his men. Little fear is entertain- ed though if the team plays the same polished game that it did Saturday and in the other matches of the season.
