A. C. game was called off because of wet grounds yes- terday afternoon. The fans had been on hand early for a last look at the Varsity before the hardest trip of the season, which starts Friday afternoon and includes games with Illinois, Iowa, and two with Minnesota. New Batting Order to Be Used Fisher had nominated Stryker for mound duty with Vick on the receiv- ing end, while the M. A. C: battery was to be Brown and Brady. The rest of the Michigan lineup was the same one that has started the last few games but the new batting order was to have" been, used for the first time. Paper was to lead off followed by Wim- bles, Uteritz, Knode, Shackleford, Vick, Kipke, Roby, and Stryker. The hitting strength is well distributed in this arrangement for even after a pitcher disposes of the first five men he must contend with Vick, Kipke, and Roby, none of whom could be classed as poor hitters. Illini Look Forward to Game With both games with the Farmers stopped by rain it looks as if the Varsity would have to dispense with meting outthe annual punishment this season and turn all efforts to the Big Ten race from now on. The game at Urbana Saturday will with- out question be the hardest of the sea- son for both teams, with the Wolver- ines favored by virtue of a victory earlier in the season. Since April 29 the goal ahead for Lundgren and his men has been the game with Michigan on the home lot. With this number of men go- ing, Coach Steve Farrell will be able to place at least two men in every event and three men in three events. The Wolverines will be represented in the dashes by Simmons and Burke. As in former years, Simmons is going strong toward the end; of the season and he is expected to make fast time next Saturday: Bowen Again .in Mile Siemons and Joyner will be en- tered in the quarter mile, and Doug- las and Price will run in the half mile event. Bowen will be called upon' to do his best in the mile event if Michigan is to win it. Hattendorf will accompany Bowen in this event. In the two mile Dayis and Chute will run. Sargent and Schmitz will take care of the hurdle events for the Wolver- ines and it is thought that they will be successful in. garnering points in both, of the events. Three men will be entered in the pole vault, javelin throw, and high jump. In the pole vault will be Landowski, Naylor, and Smith. In the high jupp will be Mc- Ellven, Siith, and Neisch, while Hoff- man, Landowski, and Dunne will threw the javelin. It is hoped that Hoffman will repeat Ilis good work of last Saturday. Stipe and Heath are entered in the shot put event and Stipe and Schmidt in the hammer throw. Dunne and Hunter will hurl the discus. Unless something unusual happens between now and Saturday, Dixon will be sent to the front 'by Fisher. The big right hander holds two victories out of three starts over the Indians and seems to have them stopped. With a bad game last week behind him there is every reason to suppose that he will be eager for a chance to re- deem himself and will be back in form. . Jackson seems to lie the logi- cal choice for Lundgren although he was bumped warmly in the game here several weeks ago. In case he is greeted with too !much cordiality by the Wolverines, Barnes will be rush- ed into the breach. Liverance to Face Iowa Liverance will be first in line for a chance at Iowa Monday and, by the way, he has been going, he should have little difficulty in turning the Hawkeyes back. Even in the face of their victory over Wisconsin, Iowa does not look so strong and should be the Wolverine prey, although the game will not be an easy one. Minne-" sota is an untried quantity in the Conference as yet although- the team: playing its first season has won a couple of games. Fisher's big diffi- culty in connection with the trip nowl seems to be a sufficient supply of pitchers .,and matters will be simpli- fied a great deal if the first two choic- es get through their games un- scathed. This has been made possible by the obtaining of Coach Sullivan, last winter's boxing coach, as Intramural trainer. From the be- ginning of next fall, before men will be allowed to take part in the more strenuous sports such as cross-coun- try, long-distance running, boxing. and wrestling, they will have- to report to Coach Sullivan and undergo a course of training under his direction. Training Recordsto Be Kept This step in the way of a closer supervision of the Intramural sports is highly commendable. Mr. Sullivan will have charge over every man, and no person will be allowed to enter these special games without his per- sonal ;consent. He will keep a record of every man's training and past com- petition, and will have something to I say about the eligibility of the par- ticipants. To every individual in these special sports, a personal touch of the Intra- mural department will be given. Coach Sullivan's persofial touch alone should be instrumental in reaching a larger number of men, especially in the field of the independents, who need encouragement and help in get- ER FOR HE UNI ting organized more than do the fra ternity men.
