Meyers beat Merkel after a hard three set match in'the ;ce meet last year and so the of this afternoon's play evens. up between the two. ich Beats Brown Decisively h trimmed Brown in a deci- a'ner and won his match for ,n by the scores of 6-2, 6-2. was stroking exceptionally .d generally managed to keep I well back in fiis opponent's His net playing was also of mention. Brown of Illinois ed to cross Rorich up time e again, playing continually to k-hand, but he found this de- it of the Wolverines' game un- dly strong. His failure to tactics, really is accountable decisive beating which was tered to him. indel -Plays Sound Tennis Hatch between George Reindel bach of Illinois probably was played from the standpoint of ennis than any other during rnoon. Reindel captured the n straight sets, 6-3, 8-6, mainly . his ability to drive the ball to Dubach's court and then follow up by a .cross-court wallop on the next play. On this play alone Reindel wad able to garner many im- portant points. Dubach played a bet- ter game than the score really would lead one to believe. He volleyed well and made Reindel cover quite a bit of ground in order to win the match. The contest was marked by many hard fought points throughout, and .now and then a sensational shot brought applause from the .crowd... Sanchez dropped .the-only singles match that Michigan lost, Webb of Il- linois turning the trick in three sets, the scores of which were 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Webb played a good steady game throughout and figured ,rightly in keeping Sanchez away from the net. He kept the ball in deep court and then let :Sanchez beat himself. The Michigan man lost pants in attempt- ing hard drives whil off balance on numerous occasions, with the result that he continually drove the ball out of bounds. Sanchez's erraticness proved to be his undoing. Michigan Wins Both Doubles The doubles' matches have already been mentioned. Merkel and .Reindel lost to Brown and Dubach .of Illinois by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 scores. Rorich and Sanchez sewed up the entire match. for Michigan by turning the Illinois team of Meyers and Webb back after playing three hard sets, the scores being 6-8, 7-5, 6-3. Rorich showed up well in this match and made a num.- ber of brilliant shots. Sanchez re- covered somewhat here and put up a little better game than he did in the singles.y The University of Southern Cali- "RIDER for PENS." Nickle's Ar- cade-Adv. But two men represent the western school, Capt. Stanley Welsh and Paul Greene. 'Welsh is the better player of the two and undoubtedly will meet Merkel in one of the single's- matches. Just who will play Greene in the other single's match is problematical at this time, although it would not be surprising to find Rorich pitched againt him, so that Reindel could be saved for the doubles. Michigan's doubles team is not yet chosen for the match. HOLD FRATERNITY TRACK MEET MAY 9 Announcement has been made of the change in date of the finals in the in- terfraternity track meet.
