Of these about half will be cut before the end of the week. ut one pitcher has been cut so far and no catchers. Of the pitchers on the squad not mush can be said. There are none that do not need a lot of attention. Lack of experience is plainly in evid- ence.. Most of the yearling mound men possess a small variety of curve balls which are not overly effective because of the inability of the men to' control their deliveries. One or two of the pitchers have something that resembles a slow ball but they will not be able to do a thing with it until they learn .to controlit. In the practice ,game with the Var- sity scrubs last Saturday, Coach Mather used 30 of his men and thus was able to make a conclusive obser- vation of most of his squad under fire. ETS BETTER OUTDOORS CHARLES REINKE, '2, SELECTED CAPTAIN OF THE YEARL- ING TEAM Archie Hahn's fresh track proteges: are fast rounding into form for ,the Michigan-Illinois freshman telegraphic track meet. The men have improved their own condition and thrown off the effects of the spring vacation let- up. Choose Captain At a meeting held Tuesday, Charles Reinke, '25, was elected cap- tain of the fresh team. Reinke is the best half miler that Archie has seenI for a number of years among the freshmen. Before coming to Mich-I igan, Reinke was the interscholastic. half mile champion of Wisconsin, do-' ing the distance in the remarkable time of 2:00 3-4. His form has im- proved as the year has advanced. During the indoor season he defeated the Varsity half milers when they were trying out for the Cornell meet. At the present time he gives promise of becoming a first class performer, and he should show up well in the telegraphic meet on May 17. Several versatile performers have been uncovered since the freshmen have started the outdoor workouts. Piafore 'the outdoor season . corn- menced little was known about Brook- er's discus throwing ability, but when the out door work started it was found that he could heave the dis- cus with great force. Under Archie's careful eye he is tossing it around 120 feet. Barth is another of the "finds." He is a broad jumper and i Broken E e Glasses QUICKLY REPAIRED - And made like new. Neifer, here,. before un- known, has made the spectators sit up when he clears. the bar at 5 ft. 10 in- wlt4i ease:. He is still in the stage ofY development. ImprovementSeen All of the men on the squad are getting better time and distance in their events. Hubbard ran the 75 in 7 4-5 last night. This mark is 1-5 Wednesday . Thursday Tom Wise nary kind.- Y; of a second less than the world's record held by Archie Hahn. The condition of the squad is much im- proved, but the n'en are still far from perfect. In many of the events the men will show remarkable time when the interclass meet is held in June, since. at that time they will have part- ly overcome the greenness that char- acterizes the actions of many of the runners and field met now. Time trials will be held for all of the freshmen on Friday, May 5. At this time Coach Hahn expects many of the records made by the fresh in- doors, to fall.
