Steve Far- lhas been prepping his men in nest in hopes that he may uncov- some hitherto unknown find on the ad so that the weakness may in Le fashion be bolstered tip, and that inch better showing may be made ing the remainder 'of the season ,n has been made thus far. 'he Wolverines, for the first time years, cannot boast of a whirl- d track team. Few veterans were from last year's squad and Steve nd himself hard pressed for good :erial. Butler, Cruikshank, Wet- Wesbrook' and a number of other sistent performers, including the outable shot-putter, VanOrden, e lost to the team either through, duation or ineligibility, and be- se of the 'surprisingly small )unt of god material that has been ilable this season, Michigan has ered a bit in carrying on its splen- record in track. Show Proper Spirit i all justice to the men who are the squad at present, it must be I that they have done remarkably . Considering all the circum- aces that have surrounded the ad this season, the fact that the n have been working with the per spirit and enthusiasm, in spite he few reversals they have encoun- ed, is deserving of more than pass- mentioA. 'he team is not as well balanced as night be. In fact it is miserably Lk in some .events in comparison b the leading aggregations in the inry such as Illinois and Cornell. , there are a number of good per- ners on its list, who, though not 1 Johnsons or Ralph Craigs, have rkd so faithfully in practice that Lr performances have shown favor- stand up in the lime-light for the re- mainder of the year. His remarkable' performance at Philadelphia last Sat- urday when he finished second in the javelin throw, in which event a new record was established, was more than pleasing. He is being counted upon for a number of points in this. event, for the coming meets. Simmons and Burke, in the dashes, Sargent in the hurdles, Stine in the weight events, McElven in the high jump, Siemons, Joyner, and Lewis in the 440 yard dash, Hattendorf and Douglas in the half-mile, and Bowen in the mile are the men who have carried the brunt of the burden thus far this season. :Although none of them have hopes of breaking .any; world records this year, they have shown considerable improvement and are to' be regarded as good, consistent performers. Look for Improvement A number of, oher men are deserving of great credit also. The new men. have in many cases taken to training in earnest and next year should find them ready to step along with the best of athletes. The showing of the team this year cannot be fully regarded as an esti- mate of Michigan's real strength in track. Ineligibility and graduation have left their marks on the squad, yet in spite of it all there is a re-' deeming . feature, that is essentially that the men on the team have as a whole shown the proper spirit. That spirit may not be capitalized into vic- tories in every case but is bound to bring"some results. It would not be terribly- surprising to see the Wolver- ines upset the dope in some of the coming meets and come across with a few wins. 100 visiting cards, latest styles, from new plate, $3.00 up, at 0.
