BASEBALL SQUAD HOLDS5 FIRST OUTDOOR WORKOUT MAY HAVE PRACTICE GAME DUR- ING EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK Michigan's 1922 baseball squad went through their first outdoor practice yesterday afternoon on south Ferry field. The main diamond is still too wet for practice and it is possjble that the team will not get on this diamond until after they return from their southern jaunt about the middle of April. The work was of a light nature yes- terday for the coach was fearful lest the men strain some muscles if they were allowed to go as fast as they desired. The pitciers were instructed to be especially careful of their arms for the first few days. In batting practice they were allowed to throw nothing but straight balls. The batters were celebrating the in- itial appearance in the outer world by sending balls to all corners of the fleld. - The other members of the squad were kept busy chasing the long hits.. Coach Fisher lined up several in- fields and put them through a spirited infield practice. Although the ground is a little soft for fast fielding the f work out enabled the men to see the difference in the hop a ball takes on the ground and the hop they have been accustomed to see them take off the board floor in the gym.t If the good weather continues the coachmay organizera practice game not later than the first of next week. This wIll give him his first opportun- ity to see his men under fire. PROF.
