"Get Acquainted" Tea Well Attended
More than seventy-five entering
sophomore, junior and senior women
attended a "get-acquainted" tea
dance given by the Senior society
from 3:30 to 5 o'clock Thursday after-
noon at Helen Newberry -residence.
This was the first of several such
occasions planned for this year- by
the society to promote friendship and
co-operation among all women on the
campus.

Orders for Patrons' Tickets Doubled,
Furst Concert Will be Held
Oct. 20
Advance orders for tickets to Chor-
al Union and Extra concert series
have been heavier this year than in
any past year in the history of the
School of Music, according to a re-
port given out yesterday afternoon
by Charles A. Sink, "secretary of the
school. Patrons' tickets have prac-
tically doubled last year's sales and
it is also reported most of the advance
orders are for the higher period tick-
ets,.
Yesterday was the last day for the
receiving of patrons' orders and from
now on applications for tickets in
sections A, B, C, and D will be filled
in the order of their arrival at the
School of Music offices. Advance
orders will be filled up to the night
of Oct. 14. Saturday, Oct. 15, the
public sale of tickets for the Choral
Union series will take place. The
first concert in this series will be by
Harold Bauer, pianist, on Oct. 20.

COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
American Bar Association And Acad-
emy-of Jurisprudence Name
Law School Head
Dean Henry M. Bates has received
notification of his appointment to
three committees during the past few
months. At the annual meeting of
the American Bar association at Cin-
cinnati on Sept. 1, he was elected a
member of the local council for the
State of Michigan. Yesterday morn-
ing he received notice of his appoint-
ment as member of the committee on
classification and restatement of the
law of the American Bar asociation.
Dean Bates has also been appointed
a member of the committee on or-
ganiation of the American Academy
of Jurisprudence.

fall for many years, it seems that the
figures must be verified by each suc-
ceeding class.
Bear with the affliction but a short
while longer and the neophytes will
eventually transfer their attentions
and tripods to the boulevards and
other remote spots.
LOANS OPEN FOR
RAPIDS STUDENTS
Graduates of Grand Rapids high
schools who lack funds to continue
their education at the University of
Michigan can under certain condi-
tions borrow $250 a year.
The Grand Rapids Scholarship as-
sociation, an organization to assist
high school graduates, lias raised
$1,000 which is in. the hands of the
Michigan Trust company. The asso-
ciation was originally started in 1895
by W. A. Greeson, who is now super-
intedent of the Grand Rapids schools.
In the 25 years of the organization 65
students have been assisted and there
were 12 applications this year.
Security in the form of a life in-
surance policy is required. No inter-
est is charged until a year after grad-
uation, when 20 per cent of the loan
with four per cent interest is claimed.
