He was a member of Tasu Beta Pi, was a Student councilman, president of the honor board in the engineering col- lege, and a member of Vulcans and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Two Drown Together Lincoln Avery, '20, and Emerson Jones, '22M, met their death together in 'Higgens lake, near Rosscommon, on the morning of. Aug. 7. With an- other friend they had started on a sailing trip when their boat was cap- sized and they were thrown overboard. The three men started to swim to a raft some distance away, but becoming tired they attempted to get back to the overturned boat. Jones and Avery sank before they could reach the boat. Avery was a member of the local chapter of Beta Theta Pi, and had en- tered Harvard last fall, while Jones The fifth victim was Elmer Nash, '24A, who was drowned early in July. Nash was a dash man on the freshman track team last year, and would have been assistant art editor of Chimes this year. His home was in Detroit. Clarence Baecker, '23E, lost his life at Zuckey lake at Lakeland, Mich., June 25. Together with Floyd Krug- er, '21E, he dove off a doat and came heart having failed. The body was re- covered the next morning with no water in the lungs.
