Northwestern has also exhibited a marked improvement and may make Mather's men step at top speed. If the Wolverines play as they did against Illinois it is hard to see how they can be stopped but only the next two weeks will settle the dis- pute. ha's not been' as successful as was hoped for and the swimmers are anx-' baus to end up as well as possible. Consequently, they are working hard for this event and will be in the best condition for the journey to the smoky city. Although the team did not look well on the score book, it must be remem- bered that the men worked under sev- eral serious handicaps. The lack of a swimming pool of sufficient size, near to the campus, is the primary dif- ficulty. Next, there was no coach this year to take charge and because of this much effort in practice was wast- ed for lack of able direction. Another setback was received when Captain Hyde was forced to resign because of too much school work. Miller and Kipke each contributed two baskets in this period while Ely came through with three. At free throwing Miller was again up to form making six out of eight in the first half. Word has been received, from the University of Cincinnati cancelling the dual' swimming meet scheduled with the Wolverine team 'on Saturday, March 4, at the Ann Arbor Y. M. C. A. The reason given was that a large number of their best swimmers are ineligible. Cincinnati would have furnished keen competition and it is regrettable that the meet was can- celled. The last imeet of the year will' be held on March 10 with the University of Pittsburg at Pittsburg. Throughout the entire half the game was entirely Michigan's. The Wolverines ran up almost as large a score as they did against Illinois last Saturday by scoring 20 points to 6- for the Hawkeyes. When the second half opened Bill Miller started the Wolverine onslaught again by dropping in a pretty basket from the center of the floor but on the following tip-off has his fourth person- al foul called and was forced to leave the game. From that time on the game was in favor of .Iowa. Michigan did not score another point during .the half but their 22 points were engugh to give them the winning counters.. ," Hawkeyes Come Back The Hawkeyes made a wonderful spurt with the ejection of Miller and scored 14 points during the remainder of the period. With two minutes of the period left Iowa was only two points behind and the game became fast and furious. Michigan obtained possession of the ball and continued to hold it until the end of the contest with the exception of two wild shots at the baske by Iowa one of which cornpleely missed the back board. The Iowa team was somewhat weak- ened by the absence of Aubrey Devine from the game but this was entirely offset by Michigan's loss of Miller for practically half of the gasme. Game Rough But Fastg The game was rough but fast throughout with absolutely no stalling upon either side. Miller and Shimek were the stars ofb the game with 12 points each. Paper held the Iowa star scoreless during the first period but the Hawkeyes changed their style of play in the second half and Shimek was able to count three field goals as Barton had Paper blocked at all times. Pearman was substituted for Miller 4vhen the latter left the game and play- ed a fair game until he in turn was replaced by McGalley. 'Summary of the game is as follows: Michigan Iowa Miller ........
