Cuts Squad Into
Two Equal Parts
Coach Ray Fisher has divided his
baseball squad into two parts in or-
der that the men can get m.re hitting
practice. ' With 75 men trying out for
positions on the team the cage is too
crowded to make hitting practice a
success and for this reason the coach
has asked that half the squad report
at 1 and the remainer at 2 o'clock.
Batting Gets Attention
The importance of hitting in win-
ning ball games is well understood by
the coach and this department will be
given his special attention. As yet the
pitchers are not putting anything on
the ball. Only fast straight ones to
let the men get their eyes and swing.
As soon as they have become accus-
tomed to the ball the pitchers' will be,
allowed to curve them.
The afternoon's program is usually
ended by the coach hitting a number
of hot grounders to the infield candi-
dates. The balls take a fast hop on
the hard wood floor and the men are

made to move fast and keep on their
toes. There has been no cut as yet in
the equad but the coach intends to
start the thinning out process the first
of next week. This will make the
gym less crowded and a minature dia-
mond can be laid out with real infield
practice given.
On Tuesday, March 28, 1893, The
Daily published an article calling at-
tention to the story contest being run
by "Short Stories" offering a prize of
$50 for the best sketch of college life.

For the. second time in two years
a Michigan basketball team has won
from the Aggie five on its home floor,
and the Wolverines "now own a string
of four .consecutive victories over
Farmer court squads. Taking a hard
fought 19 to 17 fray from M. A. C. at
Lansing Wednesday evening the Wol-
verine team finished its final prepara-
tions for the game with Illinois to-
morrow night at' Waterman gymna-
slum.
Michigan was ,forced to go at top
speed against the speedy 'Aggie five,
who with the advantage of their home
floor and rooters opened the contest
determined to avenge the one point
defeat handed them by the Maize and
Blue in the first tilt of the year be-
tween these two teams at Waterman
