FRENCH SCHOLARSHIPS OPE N TO AMERICAN1GIRS SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL SAIL ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER, Offers of scholarships and fellow- ships in Lycees and Ecoles Normales have been received fromn the French department of Education and Offices National des Universities francaises, in appreciation of the scholarships awarded to French girls in America. The instiutions offering these scholar- ships are situated at Paris, Sevres, St. Germain en Laye, Versailles, Beau- vais, Touram and Caen. The scholarships and fellowships in the Ecole Normale Superieure de done graduate work and have a univer- sity career in view. These scholar- ships are granted tonly to those who speak and read French easily and in- tend to study seriously. The scholarships and fellowships in the Ecole Normale de, St. Germain en, Laye are open to women not over 24 years of age who hold a bachelor's de- gree and have had some work in edu- cation. These scholarships will be granted only to women who have the teaching profession 'in view. They must have a knowledge of grammatical French and such, a command of spok- en and written French as to be able to carry on their work in that language. The scholarships and fellowships in Lycees are open to women between the ages of 17 to 20 who are freshmen, sophomores, or juniors and who can understand spoken French. Letters of application should con- tain an account of the applicant's training and aim in studying abroad. Necessary credentials are: A state- ment from- the college registrar of work done by the student; birth cer- tificate; photograph; health certificate from the college physician, giving 'the past two years; testimonials from two professors with whom the applicant has studied, one of whom shall be from the department of Romance lan- g.uages, and a testimonial from the dean of women as to the character, ability, and promise of the canrdate.j Applications should be sent immed- iately to Prof. Margaret E.
