M. C. A. The, meet, which is being held under the direction of Miss Hazel Hovey, in- structor in swimming, will be open to University women, as well as to all women who have been interested in the swimming courses which have been given there during the past few months. r The events to be entered are: 20- yard breast stroke,n20-yardrback- stroko, 20-yard free style, 40-yard ' backstroke, and 40-yard free style. There will be also fancy diving, en- trants in which will have two optional' and two required dives. Finally, there will be twonovelty races, a candle race and a cork race. The meet will be open to women spectators. Many women have been interested in the courses in swimming which have been given during the past se- mester by Miss Hovey. Examinations and instruction in Red Cross life-sav- ing will be^given during the rest of the month, completing the semester's work. The new semester courses will start Monday, Feb. 20. The fee for the course will be four dollars for four months, instruction. Girls may go down for practice as many times a week as they wish. The time for the regular class at the Y. lyi. C. A. has been changed to the hour between 9:30 and 10:30 o'clock on Wednesday mornings. LINTON,'09, DIES OF TYPHOID FEVER Was Professor of Pharmacy on Yacul- ,ty of University of Washington Arthur Wilson Linton, '09, associate professor of pharmacy in the Univer- sity of Washington, died of typhoid fever at his Seattle home Jan. 26, ac- cording to word received here yest-er- day. He was 43 years old. Professor Linton was born in Bunk- er Hill, Illinois, in 1878. He received the degree of Ph.G. at Highlaud Park college, Des i Moines, Iowa, in 1902. In 1909 he received his degree in pharmacy from the pharmaceutical college at Ann Arbor. Following this he was engaged in the drug business in Albion, Mich., for a short time, and then became professor of pharmacy at Valparaiso university, in Indiana. In 1913, he became a member of the fac- ulty, of the University of Washington, taking his degree of master of° science form that institution in 1915. For about a year prior to his death, Professor Linton had been in poor health. He spent last summer in Cal- ifornia, but returned in time to attend the annual convention of the Washing- ton Slate Pharmaceutical association, of which he was secretary. At, this time he also resumed his teaching which he continued until his death. in time for Easter the orders must be sent before Tuesday, Feb. 21.
