BEGIN PRACTICE ON REGULAR
DIAMOND THIS AFTERNOON

Captain Pete Van Boven's Regulars
went down to defeat -before the Yan-
nigans yesterday afternoon in a
friendly scrimmage, which after sev-
en innings ended 6 to 5. With Schulz
on the mound for the first five inn-
ings as the regular hurler, the Var-
sity maintained a lead, but the Re-
serves found Dixon, his successor, for
five runs through a combination " of
hits and errors.
At 1 o'clock this afternoon, ,weather
permitting, Coach Pratt will take his
pastimers for their first workout on
the regular diamond, which up to this
time had not been in good enough
shape to permit the daily practices.
With the mell .ontesting on a good
field, the coach is looking for even1
better results to be attained during
the 'remaining two weeks before the
invasion of the South.
In developing this year's nine,
Coach Prattis teaching the inen Jo do
their own thinking. He tells them be-
fore" he practice what he expects them
to do when confronted with a certain
play, and then gives them a chance
fto don the right thing , at ;the right
time. If the player does not make
the play correctly, Pratt tells him how
it should have been done, and the
gain then ,goes on. -
"The men are In good shape," said
Coach Pratt yesterday. "They have
improved 50- per cent since coming
outdoors, and it now begins to look
like something of a baseball team.
With ordinary development, I think
Michigan will have a nine which will
give them all a fight."
Ai ording to the coach, his men will
probably be heavy hitters. With Van
' oven, Perrin, Roby, Uteritz, Gene-
back, Shackleford, and the others,
Michigan has men, all of whom are
consistnt batters and who should
have a fairly high average.

Spring Football
Practice )Begins
Au er Vacation
. .E
Spring football practice will be in-
augurated here immediately after the
spring vacation next month. Although
Coach Yost will probably be here a
few days in order to get things in
running order, the men will be in
charge of Tad Wieman, last year's star
tackle. .
Footballs were issued this week to
all the centers, kickers, drop kickers
and forward passers that they might
have a few weeks start in order to
again get the knack of handling the
pigskin. Sixteen footballs were given
out.
Plans have not yet been completed
but it is hoped that when practice is
started a- large number of men will
report as the coaches want to get a
line on what sort of material to ex-
pect next fall.
AWARS DECISION AFTER
MAT TILTNDSIN DA
Moffit and Boschan, 145 pounders,
staged the last of the semi-finals
matches in the wrestling tourney yes-
terday afternoon at Waterman gym-
nasiumi. These two huskies who strug-
gled for 16 minutes to a draw on
Thursday went 10 minutes Friday in
the same manner. The referee then
gave them'6 minutes more with the
understanding that the one who re-
mained on top the longest woul4 be
the victor. Moffit could stick but 20
seconds, while Boschan had 1 min-
ute and 20 seconds to his credit, thus
winning the right to appear in the
finals which will be held'at 4 o'clock
today in Waterman gymnasium.
Thursday Camiener eliminated
Brown from the 125 pound class by
throwing him with a strong body hold
in 4 and 1-2 minutes.

REALTEST OF SEASON IN
TODAY'S GAME '
Wolverine soccer men will find their
strength put to a real test at 3:30
o'clock this afternoon when the Rov-
ers, 'star, Canadian aggregation, meets
the Maize and Blue booters on south
Ferry field. This team, the only or-
ganization from the Dominion to land
a Michigan state championship, is
considered one of the strongest, if not
the strongest opponent which the
Michigan informals will have to face.
They are considered among the most
powerful contenders for the Cunard
cup, the award given to the cham-
pions of Canada which is soon to be
contested for.
Coming as it does but a short time
before the Eastern trip .of the Michi-
gan players, on which Haverford,
Pennsylvania, and Cornell will be
played, the game promises the best
kind of practice possible and one
which is expected to prove a drawing
card for any and all students looking
for an exciting athletic contest.

The junior engineers defoated the
fresh lits in a hotly contested game.
The final score was 19-13. The game.
was marked by close guarding by both

Coach Mather plans to start fresh-
man baseball practice immediately af-
ter the spring vacation. Although the
weather lately has been exceptionally
good for baseball, nothing would be
gained by starting practice now and
then stopping for ten days during the
vacation..
This year's fresh squad is expected'
to be strong, as there are several
first year men in school who have
starred on teams in high school and
prep school.
Coaches Pratt and Mather plan to
have several freshman-Varsity games,

this spring and this competition w
help a great deal toward developir
both squads. In this way the fresl
man batteries will have a chance
work against more experienced hi
ters than if they pitched to their ov
men.
