Deputy Sheriff George Cook's hootch hound was on the jo yesterday morn- ing and as a result a man, giving the name of Joseph Massay, of Denton, is now in the local jail. Justice A. J. Warren of Saline bound Massey over to the circuit court under $2000 bail and Massey and his brand new road- ster were brought to the jail. Steve Dubick, an employee of the Michigan Central, evidently liked the service at the Homeopathic hospital for when he was discharged he re- fused to leave. The police were called to help him decide, and when he met the officer's advice with a left to the nose, an old fashioned rough-house ensued. As he was being taken over to Justice Thomas' court to be arraign- ed, he escaped, and was only captured after a chase of five blocks. As a re- sult he drew 90 days in the Detroit house of correction. Herbert Tenny and William Frey, the two high school students who were injured when the automobile they were driving was struck by a freight engine Saturday night, are re- covering from their injuries very sat- isfactorily. The two boys were on theqir way home from a high school fraternity initiation at Tenny's home. Thecar was a total wreck. An automobile owned by Adam Neff and driven by his son, Thomas 18 years old, collided with a machine owned by Prof. Tobias Diekhoff at the corner of South and East University avenues late Saturday night. No one was injured, although Professor Diek- hoff's machine was badly damaged. Paul Proud, president of the Cham- ber of Commerce, has appointed the following committee to act in co-oper- ation with the other organizations of Ann Arbor in an effort to secure the proposed federal hospital for soldiers for this city: Prof. W. C. Hoad, Prof. . 0. Davis, Dr. W. E. Forsythe, C. E. Gallu, C. J. Hutzel, Theron S. Lang- ford, 1. H. O'Kgne, W. P. Purfield, H. Silvester, Dr. V. C. Vaughn, and C. W. Wagner. Through the inability* of the three negro occupants of a large touring car to find the oil supply pipe for the garageman, a car belonging to the Smith, Hinchman and Grylis company of Detroit, was recovered. The oil man, became suspicious of the three negroes and notified the police who took the men into custody. They gave the names of Robert White, Chicago. Fred Hill and Charles Jones, both of Detroit. The men will1 be taken to Detroit, where they will face a charge of larceny. PROF. RANKIN SPEAKS TO TEACHERS IN MONROE Prof. T. E. Rankin, of the rhetoric department, delivered an address on "The World Today" last night before the Teacher's' club of Monroe. W. C. Hall, of the rhetoric department, was the principal speaker at the father and son banquet last night at Imlay City. Mr. Hall took for the subject of his address, "Making a Man." Prof. W. Carl Rufus, of the astronomy de- partment, addressed a high school meeting last night at Mount Clemens on the subject, "Life in Korea."
