BOTANISTS SECURE JAPANESE WORKS Professor Miyabe of the Imperial University of Sappo, Japan, has made possible for the botany department to secure the first three parts of a monu- mental work on the trees of northern Japan, which were received from the governor of Hokkaido. This work illustrates if color all of the important species of the forest flora of Hokkaido. The process used is lithography, which is being replaced in this country by the tri-color half tone. The process is capable of yielding results superior to those of the more modern method and, accord- ing to men in the local department, the Japanese work is unsurpassed in scientific literature.
