With the meet under the personal supervision of Archie Hahn every element necessary for success seems to be assured. The program will comprise the 10 standard events, so arranged as to permit men entered in more than one event to show to their best advantage. An entrant, however, is limited to three events, and any men desiring to participate may enter on the bulletin board in the intramural office, room three, Press building. A few eligibility rules must be ob- served. Men on the Varsity squad, former winners of M's or AMA's, and men on probation are barred. All oth- ers on the campus are permitted to enter, and a long list is counted on. Places count five, three, two, and one, and winners of two or more points will receive numeral track shirts, the freshmen earning awards to constitute the All-fresh squad, and to receive distinctive numerals. In the one game played in the in- terclass basketball league Friday night the Pharmics defeated the Architects 18 to 12, in a game that was tied 12 to 12 at the end of the reg- ular playing time. In the extra period the dope mixers rallied around Matt- son, their star performer, and count- ed three field baskets while holding their opponents scoreless. ,Kline, for the losers, displayed good all around ability. The schedule for Monday night is as follows: Upper round; Merner's Fresh lits vs. Junior engineers; Crawforth's Soph lits vs. Lower dents; Upper laws vs. Lower laws. Lower round: Frosh engineers vs. Upper dents; Stone's Soph lits vs. Jerome's Soph engineers; Sterling's Fresh T its vs. Junior lits. TAYLOR'S DEFENSIVE PLAY BEATS COPULOS, FRIDAY 50-26 Playing his opponent safe at all stages of the game, Al Taylor defeat- ed George Copulos, of Detroit, 50 to 26, in their three cushion billiard match at the Union billiard room Fri- day night. The score was the same as in the afternoon exhibition when Cop- ulos got away to a flying start and then assuming the defensive left Tay- lor with but few opportunities to score. Taylor's game Friday night was es- pecially interesting to the gallery as the' Union player made a score on al- most every trip to the table, running out his string in 66 innings. MHis de- sire to leave his opponent safe un- doubtedly held down his average as he took few chances, preferring to sacri- fice points for safeties. Both afternoon and evening matches were attended by good sized crowds and interest was strong, especially in the earlier stages of the matches. Sign Ihe Petition When a group of men come out faithfully, day in and day out, and, with no definite chance of recogni- tion and handicapped -by a lack of good facilities for practice, work for the good of Michigan, they deserve to receive credit for it. That is what the informal swimming team has done this year, and its really excellent showing is indicative of the kind of energy the men on the squad have given for the cause. Tomorrow a petition will be circu- lated on the campus, a petition to the Athletic association, asking that the team be recognized at once asa Var- sity sport so' that it may be entered in the Conference meet at North- western on March 17 and 18. Cer- tainly the squad itself can be depend- ed upon to make a showing worthy of the name of Michigan if it is entered' in this meet, and, as the petition reads, "We believe, further, that the recognition of the sport will furnish the necessary incentive for the com- pletion of the Union swimming pool, both as concerns the student body and' the alumni." At least it will certainly show the latter that Michigan is de- serving of this addition to her facili- ties. But aside from that, the team and our own fair name are to be consid- ered, for squads from nearly every other school in the Conference will be at Evanston for the event. Every Michigan man who has the interest of his University at heart will sign the petition tomorrow. . A DESIRE FOR ANY TYPE OF DANCING may easily be satisfied at MLLE.
