Three teams, Indiana, Purdue and Illinois, now have lost one game each, but as the Hoosiers have won more than any other team they top the Big Ten. Michigan and Iowa Surpise Critics Michigan and Iowa caused the sen-~ sations of the last week, and prob- ably of the entire year. The Wolver- ines defeated two of the three most powerful quintets in the Big Ten by surprise wins from Chicago and Pur- due. Iowa put Chicago out of run-' ning for first place honors by taking a 17 to 16 game from the Maroons at Iowa City, Monday night. By win-' ning these two games on the last trip Michigan proved to be one of the best teams on a Conference floor, but one that got away to a woefully bad start by dropping three straight games on the home court. While the Wolverines are entirely out of consideration for the champion- ship, the local team should be one of the determinate factors the rest of the year. There seems reason to be- lieve that the Conference champion this year will be defeated more than once as so many of the schools are4 evenly matched. Consequently strong teams, ,now developing, will hold the' balance of power, and should cause the leaders endless trouble. Four Tied for Fourth Place Four teams, Michigan, Chicago, Wis- confsin, and Minnesota, are now tied for fourth place. The first three have' proved themselves to be of great pow- er, while Minnesota showed unexpect- ed strength by winning from Wiscon- sin 22 to 21, at Minneapolis. Last place in the Conference is now1 closely contested between three teams, all of whom have lost three and won one game. They are Ohio State, Northwestern, and Iowa.
