The materials n away in China wer those left nd in Siberia when the American Cross was withdrawn, 'consisting 305 cases of goods, about a ship , that were trans-shipped from livostok to Shanghai in the sum- months. Questionnaires Used L order that a basis might be ar- I at for a systematic analysis of requirements of hospitals in China, so that the distribution might be table, questionnaires were sent by the Shanghai Red Cross ad d on returns from these a chart prepared which gives a history description of the distribution. Need Urgent all, 400 shipments went forward arious parts of China. Of the 350 itals and institutions that re- ed them 232 were non-American 118 were American. The distribu- was made regardless of national- or creed and hundreds of letters Shanghai Red Cross has received, t the urgent need of the things n, particularly at this time when ig to fluctuations of exchange and r causes, working budgets of hos- s have been seriously impaired.'' Supplies Varied nong the supplies shipped were complete sets of surgical instru- ts, the majority of. which may not obtained in China markets, and r things sent included various sof cotton and bandages, surgical sings, blanketing, garments, ster- rs, microscopes and drugs. All inses and charges for forwarding supplies were borne by the China ral committee of the Red Cross. Buzz! Crackle! Snap! A new radio pest is in our midst.a Of all types of interference that the wireless operator runs up against, the loud sputtering from an unknown source, the kind that he can't get rid of by akny manipulation of the appa- ratus or any amount of tuning, is the bane of his existence. And this kind of thing is exactly what has been both- ering the operators on University sets for the past 10 days or more. Is Near Campus Somewhere near the campus, or on it, is the cause of the disturbance and at almost any hour during the day or night a loud buzzing, sometimes pro- longed and continuous, sometimes in- ternfittent and resembling somewhat the letters of the continental code, rends the ether and makes life miser- able for the man who is "sitting in" with the receivers over his head try- ing to read some distant station. The racket sounds like a little boy with a spark coil, a little boy who doesn't know the code and doesn't realize that his key-punching is an- noying everyone in his vicinity. Such little boys are generally innocent but they manage to make themselves most unpopular.. Not In Building Or the noise might emanate from experiments being conducted on elec- trical apparatus anywhere about the campus. Spark coils and high tension circuits of one kind and another are in great abundance in our engineering and physics-buildings and might cause the trouble. But various investiga- tions have failed to locate any appa- ratus which has been working at the same time the disturbance was noticed. The signal corps set is frequently put out of the running by this newly- developed interference and amateurs over town complain violently of the untunable noise. But apparently it can't be helped. University professors and their assistants swear to their guiltlessness and no little boys with back-yard antennas and spark coils can be found nearby. So the campus radio pest continues to hover over us 'while campus oper- ators take off their 'phones and sit back in unavailing disgust.
