Brings Detroit Symphony Orchestra to
Ann Arbor at That Time
Ossip Gabrilowitsch and the De-
troit Symphony orchestra will appear
in Ann Arbor for the first time this
season on Monday evening, Jan. 24,

in Hill auditorium. The concert is in
the Choral union series.
This orchestra has made a wonder-
ful reputation throughout the country
during the short time of its organiza-
tion. Five years ago it was what
might be called a mere experiment
while today it holds a position ofrhigh-
est eminence in the musical world
Gabrilowitsch is said to have been
born to the baton. He has dominant
force, magnetism, confidence, and re-

pose in his conducting--all of which
inspire the orchestra to its utmost.
In the program to be offered two
especially interesting features are in
evidence. These are a work of Tsch-
aikowsky played byhillltp Abbas,
cellist, as soloist, and Symphony No.
3, "The Divine Poem," Opus 43, by
Scriabin, .by the orchestra. This last
work has been heard in few cities out-
side of Detroit.
Library Memorial Clock Moved
The memorial clock presented to the
Library by the class of 1908 has been
moved from the room, which served
as reading room before the opening
of the new building, to the upper
study room. The clock has had a
rather unsettled existence, as it has
been moved twice, the first time from
the study room of the old Library to
the temporary study room of the new
Library.

tive laboratory, recently received a
4x5 1-4 heavy duty engine for experi-
mental work in his department. This
was the loan of the Hinkley motors
company of Detroit, makers of truck
and tractor engines.
