The item below was in The Daily for Dec. 17, 1890.) DANCING CLUB Now we have it-a novel idea. Since the University can not have a gym- nasium or any other means of exer- cise, we will dance, thus supplying not only the need for healthy motion but also promoting social intercourse. With this idea the Students' Dancing club has been formed, which propos- es to "tip the light fantastic" every Wednesday evening the remainder of the school year. For this -purpose Granger's hall has been secured. The first party, was given last night, at which the limited -number of twenty- four couples were present. Dancing was indulged in from eight to ten o'clock and everybody went away feel- ing much pleased with the result of the new venture. DIXIE CLUB GIVES ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY TONIGHT The Dixie club will hold its annual Christmas party tonight at the Pack- ard from 9 to 1 o'clock. George W. Gardner, '21, is chairman of the com- mittee to arrange for the dance. Nobe Wetherbee's orchestra will furnish the music. All Dixie men are welcome. Schubert (Detroit) - Theda sara, the famous vampire of the screen, playing in person in a real American play, "The Blue Flame." City News The surface drainage sewer being put in by the street department on Hill street from Church to Lincoln, will be finished in about two weeks, according to Alfred J. Paul, com- missioner of streets. The completion of the sewer at the present time will leave Hill street ready for paving next summer. The new pavement will be laid from State street to Wash- tenaw avenue. Miss Nellie S. Loving, librarian of the Ann Arbor public library, is car- rying out a new plan of education for the grade school students. The sixth, seventh, and eigh.th grades are shown the use of the files and how to find the book or periodical that they want in the library. They also learn the use of the several encyclopedias. This work is done by Miss Meta Henne, in charge of the childrens room. Lists have also been compiled of books in- teresting to boys and girls and which they are encouraged to use. The Chamber of Commerce expects to inaugurate an educational cam- paign in Ann Arbor concerning the housing situation. It is expected that the influx of workers due to the build- ing of the stadium, the new University hospital and other buildings planned for the summer will tax the already limited supply of homes. The cam- paign is being prepared under the di- rection of Roscoe Bonisteel, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.
