MICH] r -i, N . MICH ~AINL Of Union yes Decreased Prom now on, henceforth and for rest of the college year, dances at 3Union will be but 12 or 13 minutes' length and this time limit includes cores. Intermissions will be only ee minutes. This will be absolute- carried into effect literally, figura- ely and every way, even though the hestra leader has to hold a stop tch, wave a red -lag, and hang out t card announcing the new dance aself.. Lately there has been m=ich criti- m of the extended-35-minute dances i the seven or eight-minute pauses ween. "You're likely to lose your 1 half the evening if you risk trad- dances," is commonly heard. And again, "That girl was a p'oor dancer and I was 'stuck' a half hour with her," is a remark made almost as often by the men of the women, as vice versa. "We are going back to the tradi- tions of the Union," said Paul Eaton, '21, president, yesterday. "The ma-_ jority who come to the dances to widen their acquaintances, will no longer havetto submit to the minority of tea hounds who bring a girl to the dance and pay no attention to any one else all evening. The new policy of short dances, and short intermissions will be strictly enforced, beginning immediately." Printed programs will be distributed Friday and Saturday evenings, the former dance to have 15 numbers and the latter only 12. The Morton-Cadwell murder case was continued yesterday afternoon after reading the court calendar in the morning. The barber-nurse-stu- dent case is to be called during this term. Nearly 6,000 papers, averaging about 20 a day, relating solely to mortgages and land transfers, passed through the hands of Washtenaw county Reg- ister of Deeds during the 12 months from Oct. 1, 1919, to Oct. 1, 1920. Harry Douglass, '90E, of the Wash- tenaw Gas company, and Herbert Sil- vester of the Detroit Edison Co., of this city, stated thatthere should not be any shortage of either gas or elec- tric power this year as coal is plenti- ful, and cars available to carry it here. Underground cables are being laid from the office of the Postal Telegraph station on Huron street to the Ann Ar- bor railway station. This cable is to serve as a replacement and also as an extension, for it will contain 24 trunk line wires. The telegraph office is also having installed a long distance telephone which will connect them with all the Principal cities in the United States. The unique feature connected with this system is that it requires no cen- tral to "plug in" as this is done by the person using the phone. Though dis- tinct from the Bell company, it is pos- sible to connect with their phones. For live progressive up-to-date ad. vertising use The Michigan Daily.- Adv.
