The following have been retained: Cap- tain Karpus, Williams, Whitie Wilson, Weiss, Peare, Pearman, Rea, Dunne, Miller, Walmuth, Zinn, J. E. Wilson, Wickham, Paper, Whitlock, J. A. Smith, Cook, Gregory, Klepser, Elbler, LeGalley, Reason, Gray, Brown, Moul- throp, Mirands, Piper, Rouse, Dudek, and Hicks. The basketball season will open with a game with Kalamazoo college next Friday evening in Waterman gymnasium. The upstate team is al- ways represented by a strong team and is certain to give the Varsity a stiff battle. Interest is increased by the fact that Mather used to coach the visitors. The second game of the year will be that with Western State Normal Dec. 18. This contest will also be played on the home court. Coach Mather is not certain of the line-up that he will use for these games, since some of the men are not in shape yet and others have not had sufficient rest from the rigors of the football season Miss Olson, Librarian, Visits Campus Miss Alma Olson, librarian of the Peter White library of Marquette and president of the Michigan Library as- sociation, visited the Library Mon- day. FRATERNITY SWIMMING NOTICE The following fraternities will compete at 7:45 o'clock tonight in the interfraternity swimming tournament at the Y. M. C. A.: Phi Delta Theta, Kappa Beta Psi, Delta Chi, Sigma Nu, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Gamma Delta, Zeta Beta Tau, Trigon, Phi Rho Sigma, Phi Sig- ma Delta, Kappa Nu, Alpha Sig- ma Phi, Signus, Phi Kappa Psi, and Phi Sigma Kappa. No less than three entries will be permitted any house, and those desiring to swim in the relay must send four represent- atives. No suits will be requir- ed. Thirteen men won aMa's: Rowland, Petro, Planck, Searle, Wachter, Andrews, Kreis, Trout, Paper, Lehman, Bailey, For- tune, and Gilmore. All but three, Lehman, Fortune, and Gilmore, will be back next year, Twenty-one were awarde R's. They are: Barris, Marson, McKnight, Sut- ton, Emery, Davidson, Avery, Mudd, Wagner, Smith, Anderson, Hinds, Harding, Kresge, Foster, Montambo, Whelan, Morey, Michaels, Hulse, and Selling. MICHIGAN RELAY SWIMMERS TO SWIM AT D. A. C. AGAIN An invitation has been received from Coach Matt Mann of the Detroit Athletic club to send a four man re- lay swimming team to the annual Athletic Night of the club to be held Saturday evening. Coach Drulard has accepted the invitation and as a re- sult Michigan will again have repre- sentatives at the D. A. C. this week. The team to swim the D. A. C. re- lay squad will be picked from the fol- lowing men: Hyde, Hubbard, Ran- dall, Gilmore, Smith, Ullman, and Schwartz. Varsity swimming pictures will be taken at the Rentschler studio dur- ing the noon hour of Thursday, Dec. 16. A list of men who are to be in the group picture has been posted at. the pool. Several individual pictures for publicity work will also be TENNIS TOURNEY WINNERS DECIDED Gregory and Sanchez clinched the campus tennis doubles championship Monday afternoon when they defeat ed the combined efforts of Riley and Genebach in three consecutive sets. 6-0, 6-3, 6-1. The games were far harder contested than the tally indi- cates. In the second set the losers seemed to have a fair chance to win the contests, but the stamina of the champions was too much for them. Gregory and Sanchez will both be given cups. In the singles Rorich snowed Bow- ers under in straight sets. Rorich displayedform which may enable him to make the Varsity next season. This victory places Rorich as campus sin- gles champion. Both Bowers and Rorich will get cups. . WILL DISCUSS NEW COMMERCE CLUB AT ECONOMICS SMOKER Plans for the formation of an or- ganization to take the place of the old Commerce club will be discussed at the Economics Smoker, which will be held at 7:15 o'clock tonight in the Union. Prof. David Friday, of the econom- ics department, is to be the principal speaker. Earle L. Hemenway, '21, has charge of the arrangements. All eco- nomic students are eligible to attend, the cost being 35 cents. Prof. Badger on Week's Leave Prof. W. L. Badger, of the chemical engineering department, is absent this week at the meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in New Orleans. He is presenting the fifth research paper to come from the evaporator laboratory at the Univer- sity of Michigan. STATE HOSPITAL CONFERENCE ENDS ANNUAL SESSION TODAY The conference of the Michigan State Hospital association at Grand Rapids ends its annual session today. Those who are attending the confer- ence from the University hospital are: Dr. C. G. Parnall, president of the Hospital association and superinten- dent of the University hospital; Miss Mary Welch, superintendent of nurs- es, Miss Alice Late, of the education- al department, and R. E. Greve, hos- pital business manager. Dr. D. W. Springer, of the Homeop- athic hospital, is also attending the conference. AMERICAN CHEM. SOCIETY OPEN TO ADVANCED STUDENTS Membership in the University of Michigan section of the American Chemical society is open to advanced students in chemistry, according to Prof. R. J. Carney, secretary. All members receive the publications of the society, which are the journal of the American Chemical society, Chem- ical Abstracts, and the Journal of In- dustrial and Engineering Chemistry. The actual cost of the publication of these journals is considerably more than the yearly dues paid by the stu- dent members. Cochran and Schaefer are trying to wrest the crown from Wille Hop- pe, the man who has been supreme in billiard circles for so many years. These three men are playing a round robin tournament, the winner of which will hold the American billiard title next year.
