Dublin, Nov. 27.-Mrs. Annan Bryce, wife of the former member of parlia- ment and sister-in-law of Lord Bryce, former British ambassador to the Un- ited States, recently was prevented by British authorities from landing in Wales to deliver an address. She was sent back to Ireland and soon releas- ed. She had been staying in Glengariff, County Cork, with her husband and received an invitation to address meet- ings in Tonypandy, South Wales. She, crossed to Holyhead to fulfill this en- gggement but when the boat reached Holyhead pier, a military officer ord- ered her down to the cabin to - be searched. Nothing was taken except the notes of the speech she meant to deliver in Tonypandy. She was refused permission to land at Holyhead and was taken back to Kingstown in custody. At Kingstown she was put on a military motor lorry and driven to the Bridewell where she was detained for a few hours. A castle official arrived and informed her that there was no charge against her and she was then released. III Screen Majestic- Jack London's story, "The Mutiny of the Elsinore." Abelardo Arizp4, a colonel in the Carranza army, approached a small village near Monterey with 10 follow- ers, announcing that'he was the van- guard of the "Army of Reconstruc- tion," which was going to topple the present government. Word was sent to the garrison near Monterey and that evening Arizpe and his men were captured and at sunrise the next morning the colonel was shot. His men, who appeared to be more interested in getting something to eat than in overthrowing a government, were allowed to depart unmolested. 8 SSEW7T A SlLVERS anAttgs DIAMONDS A Gift of Beauty Is Joy Forever. Permits have been abl- ished. Needless to say, the Sinn Fein- ers have not given up any weapons and the order: has only- operated against people who kept guns for sport, or happened to possess sou- venirs of the war. The German cartridges brought home by many Irish boys would ap- pear on a charge sheet as so many rounds of dum dum ammunition, and even a disabled revolver falls under the ban. The souvenirs, therefore, now repose in the government stores. Some loyal people were not quick enough in responding to the government order and have had to pay for it in the police courts. In one case a man who had a per- mit for a gun thought it would be all right if he told the police about it without going to the trouble of lodg- ing it at the military barracks. The police knowing his position, encour- aged his delusion. But that did not save him from prosecution and the facts showed how needful was the government's precautions, for the Sinn Feiners got into his house and made away with his gun while the prosecu- tion was pending.
