ILLINOIS FIGHTS DESPERATE BATTLE FOR CHAMPIONSHIP WORKMAN DOES REMARKABLY THROUGHOUT INITIAL PERIOD SENSATIONAL 38 YARD RUN BY STINCHCOMB The First Quarter Ends With Neither Team Being Able to Score (Special to the Daily) At the end of the fourth quarter of the Illinois-Ohio State game for the championship of the Conference, the score was 0 to 0. There were at least 21,000 people, the largest crowd that ever jammed the Illinois stand, in the bleachers to watch the Buckeyes and the Illinis battle for the Big Ten football title. Captain Depler of the Illinois squad was not in the game because of a bro- ken collar-bone. Reitch started in his place. Stinchcoipb's remarkable 35-yard run about the middle of the second quatrer placed the ball on Illinois' 15-yard line and was probably the most sensational piece of work in the game. H. Workman for Ohio State starred also when he punted out of bounds on Illinois' 1-yard line. The game was characterized from begin- ning to end by the sensational man- ner in which the game was fought. Ohio State at one time pushed the ball down to the Illinois 4-yard line, but was unable to put it across. A touchdown was averted by the splen- did defensive work of the Illinois for- ward wall. Illinois showed punch in attack, but the defense of the Buckeyes was too strong to permit any sensational gains. Carney was injured early in the game and was forced out of play. It is thought that his knee was in- jured. Steketee breaks up a third. Ekberg kicks to Perrin on Michigan's 37-yard line. Time out for Minnesota. Perrin goes through line for 4 yards.
