Main & Huron 707 North University Ave. 3 ,; ., ai A MADE THIS SUMMER NURSES' HOME IS COMPLETED AND ALREADY IN USE Many changes and improvements have been made in buildings on the campus since the close of last semes- ter. Betsy Barbour dormitory, the new women's dormitory, has been practi- cally finished and will be complete as soon as the shipment of doors arrives. The new nurses' home has been completed and is already in use President Burton's house has been completely remodelled and presents quite a contrast to the old dwelling. University hall has been recon- structed, and the size of the audito- rium has been altered so as to afford space for several new class rooms on the north and south wings. The new steel lockers for the gym- nasium have been installed and the addition of the new equipment will more than take care of the large en- rollment in this department. A concrete approach has been con structed to Alumni Memorial hall from the Union, and the old walk from the Chemistry building to the Economics building has been replaced by a new one. Work is in progress on the Botan- ical laboratory building and the sec- ond floor is being finished to accom- modate the attendance. A temporary addition to the Med- ical building is planned to care for the overflow in this department. The new building will in all probability be constructed in the court of the present Medical building. Work on the new University hos- pital has been progressing at a slow rate due to the lack of material and the lack of labor. Employees of the buildings and grounds committee have assisted in some of this work but little has been done toward the completion of the building. Installation of Lights Helps Library Lighting facilities in the main read- ing room of the University library will be made as perfect as is possible at the end of the week, when the in- stallation of lights at the two tables at each end of the reading room will be finished. UNION PRESIDENT WILL 0O SECRETARYS WOR PLAN WILL ENABLE HONEY TO BE SPENT FOR ENTER- TAINMENTS Announcement that the work of the general secretary of the Union will be performed by the president was made yesterday. This action has been 'under consideration for some time and last Thursday the board of gov- ernors gave its assent to the new plan. The new policy comes as a sugges- tion from the president of the Union, Paul Eaton, '21. The office of general secretary was rendered vacant last June by the resignation of George Hurley, '18L, and during the Summer session Eaton offered to assume the duties of that position in addition to his work as president. This move will automatically cre- ate a working fund which is expected by Union officials to be of great as-x sistance in furthering the activities of the men's organization. The general secretary receivedo a salary of $300 per month, and un'der the new ar- rangement this money will be ex- pended for the benefit of the Union members. The new fund will be used to un- derwrite the expenses of the attrac- tions the Union will provide for its members this year. Billiard experts can be obtained for exhibitions by the use of this money, and whatever the Union may decide to do in the way of entertainment will not be held up for lack of a working fund. The money will be spent under the direction of the board of directors which has been made responsible for the auditing of the fund. HOLLISTER RETURNS FROM YEAR AT UNIV.
