THE MICHIGAN DAILY Calcutta Student Represents India Michigan is, with little difficulty, retaining her right to the 'title of "the most cosmopolitan university in the United States." To her list of coun- tries represented by the women stu- dents of the University she has this year added a student from Calcutta, India, Miss Asha Latika Haldar. Miss Haldar is working for her doctor's degree in philosophy. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Bethtme College for Women, a govern- ment college in Calcutta, and her master's degree in philosophy and ex- perimental psychology from the Scot- tish Church college in Calcutta, a men's college. "Women in India, wishing to obtain a master's degree, are forced to attend a men's college because of the lack of provision for confering master's degrees in any of the women's colleges," she explained. Miss Haldar expects to remain in the states not longer than two years, at the end of which period she plans to return to her native country to become a professor of philosophy. 1111 Ell 1UI Il II EIIili if1 1111|111li 11 [ l i l llilillll lltllt I!lI I E H U [F111l1 iilt11 Lyndon & Company - - EST. 1905 - - r 719 North University Avenuec KODAKERS - HERE'S YOUR FIRST STOP - RIGHT HERE AT THE STORE We specialize in Developing and Print-a ing, and Enlarging Flashlights = EASTMAN KODAKS AND EASTMAN FILMS , (ALWAYS FRESH) tiilllllltll 11ttllit1111t11111illfilitlltl F1111111111111 111111 illl1 ll till 1111 11111111 11 111I tlliI Try-outs for the Freshman Girls' Glee club will be held at 4 o'clock Monday and Wednesday afternoons in room 204 of the School of Music. Frances Maire, '21, will p'ay the part of, the girl, Mary Ives, '23, the boy, and Min- nie Louise Pratt, '21, the burglar. Special permission to produce this play was granted by the author to Prof. J. Raleigh Nelson, director of Masques.- It was featured for several years at the Bandbox theater. After the program there will be games and music for dancing. GYM CLASSES SHOW FRESHMEN VARY IN PHYSICAL FITNESS Hark!' hark! the dogs do bark, the frosh have gone to gym, Some are short and some -are tall, and some exceeding slim. So one could paraphrase the old nursery rhyme if he should glance uver the report of the physical con- dition of the freshmen as shown in their examination chart. They are of all kinds and sundry, and the varie ties are as many as those of the Pied Piper's rats. The heaviest freshman is a man of much weight, in fact, it amounts to 255 pounds. To strike the bal- ance the lightest man weighs only 9b pounds. This prodigy has the low average of 30, and is but 62 inches in I height. The shortest man is a Filipino who stopped growing at 54 inches. The long of it reaches the commanding height of 78.3 inches. The best de- veloped man is 80 per cent perfect. Contrary to the natural supposition, this is an unusually high average. Proof of this fact is that the most poorly developed man is not quit( I 25 per cent perfect. According to Dr. May most of the! students are unusually soft and need a good deal of hard exercise to put them into 'trim.
