NEER AND DAVIES FORM UNUSUALLY POWERFUL TEAM In the closing match of an unusually successful year, the Michigan tennis' team will meet the powerful Leland Stanford net team at 30 o'clock this afternoon on the Ferry field courts. Leland Stanford is represented by two men who are the Pacific Coast in- tercollegiate doubles champions and one of whom is the Pacific Coast ini tercollegiate singles champion. In cap- tain Phil Neer and James Davies, the western school has a pain of tennis- players of national renown. . This doubles combination has, a, national rating of 19, while in the singles both of these men are rated higher than all other college players in the country with the exception of Walter Wesbrook of Michigan, and Carl Fischer of Pennsylvania. The Western team plays Michigan in the course of anj Eastern tour and in addition to play- ing all the leading teams of the East will take part in the national intorcol- I egiates to be played in Philadelphia the week of June 27. Lewis Munz and Robert Angell will oppose the Stanford pair in both sin- giles and doubles for Michigan. With- out Captain Walter We"brook, who is still confined to his bed in Ithaca, Michigan is' not conceded an equal chance. Neer and Davies recently de- feated Vories and Segal of Chicago, in both singles and doubles matches. Tennis "M"s following today's match with Stanford will be awarded to Cap- tain Walter Wesbrook, Lewis Munz, Robert Angell, George Reindel, Jr., and Charles Merkel. Election of next year's captain will be held at the time the Varsity picture is taken some time next week. BASEBALL, TRACK LETTERS AWARDED Award of Varsity track "M"s has been made to 21 men, the largest num- ber of letters that has been given in the cinder sport for many years, and 13 received letters in baseball, Of this number, 11 will receive the addi- tional reward of the stripe which is given to those men who score points in either the Eastern Intercollegiates or the Outdoor Conference meet. The remaining nine men are given the coveted "M" jersey. Those who have been rewarded with the additional stripe are Captain But- ler, Losch, Simmons, Wetzel, Burns, Lewis, Walker, Crulkshank, Burk- holder, Van Orden, Dunne, and Hoff- man. The men to whom plain "M"s will go are Wheeler, .Weebrook, Sar- gent, Forbes,,Switt, Douglas, Stipe, Ja- cob, and Lukins. Twelve others, Burke, Rea, Schmidt, Positions are scarce now.
