End ILLINOIS, WISCONSIN SHOW UP FAVORABLY Indians, by Iowa Defeat, Preyed Their Machine as Good as That of Last Year (By John Mceanis) With the University of Michigan the only team in the Conference which has not yet done battle with another member of the Big Ten, gridiron ex- perts are already engaged in that de- lightful indoor sport popularly known as "picking the winner." The small chance of being correct is seen from the results of last year, when Ohio State, universally selected as the title winner, was nosed out in the last moment of play by Illinois. Despite this handicap, however, games this season have already re- vealed two teams of known and proven power, and three which may be put on the problematical list. The first two are Illinois and Wisconsin, and the last three, Michigan, Ohio State, and Chicago. The Indians showed that they have as good, if not better, a machine than brought the Conference honors to the Urbana schol in 1919, by defeating Iowa, conceded to have a brilliant eleven, 20 to 3. The Illini punch that put across 17 points in the final period on Slater, Devine and company, will be feared by every team that Coach Zuppke's charges meet this year. If the Michigan line can hold the Illinois forwards in check as they handled the Michigan Aggie men, they will have little to fear from the Indian backs. Iowa looked good in the opening Conference game, when the University of Indiana was trimmed 14 to 0. Such a good showing was made that Iowa became overrated, and was given an even chance with Illinois, a task that the team was not able to live up to. By this defeat, Iowa is virtually out of the running for this year's title, but will be a strong contender for first division honors. of quarter. Score: Miehigan, 6; Ill1- nols, 7.
