ORGANIZATIONS AGREE THAT 5"
YEAR COURSE WILL SOON
BE IN FORCE -
"High Buildings in Relation to Nar-
row Streets" was the subject of an
illustrated lecture by Harvey W. Cor-
bett, New York architect, Wesdnesday
afternoon in the Natural Science audi-
torium. Serious congestion and the
enforced use of subways and elevated
roads in large cities due to the ex-
cessive height of buildings could be
eliminated, according to the speaker,
by enforcing zoning and height limit-
ing laws such as have proved success-
ful in New York City. Lower build-
ing areas would be better from every
point of view, claimed Mr. Corbett, as
they distribute traffic over larger sur-
faces. Preceding the lecture Mr. Cor-
bett was the guest of the architectural"
college for luncheon at the Union.
Prof. Emil Lorch, of the architectur-i
al college, introduced the speaker of
the afternoon. He also announced
the award of the medal of the Ameri-
can Institute of Architects to Orrin F.
Stone, '20. The professor discussed
the conclusions reached in Washington
recently, with respect to the architec-
tural education, by the annual conven-
tion of the Association of Collegiate
Schools of Architecture and the Amer-i
ican Institute of Architects. Both or-

ganizations have agreed upon the ne-
cessity of a five-year course for arch-
itectural students. A parallel course
of this type which in time will sup-
plant the present four-year plan is the
suggested solution of the question.
