Reid in "The with a support- ig Agnes Ayres CAMP DAMIS OPENS Fo FIRST SESSION JUNE 3 More than 70 engineering students will take examinations next week for the surveying course at Camp Davis this summer. These students will be the first of the two shifts to go, leaving Ann Arbor June 3 for camp instruc- tion which will cover a period of eight weeks. This camp is primarily for civil engineering students, ,but a few from the forestry and landscape design departments are going. Camp Davis is unique In that it was the first institution of its kind to be established in the country. Itx was started in 1847 by the University. The camp is located on the south shore of Douglas lake, Cheboygan county, Michigan. It is included in the University lands known as thel Bogardus tract, which covers 3,200 acres. The topography is varied af- fording many excellent opportunities for varied kinds of field work. Students are housed in steel buildings with concrete floors and all necessary camp equipment is furnished. The Univer- sity Health service provides a physic-, ian for the camp. Students have an opportunity to be-j come familiar with many common things which are found in a well or- gnnized camp. Among these might be mentioned the administration of mess, the sanitary system, the water and electric lighting plants, handling of boats, and care of miscellaneous equipment. Douglas 'lake provides excellent bathing and swimming. 'Students find time to publish a weekly paper, to play ball and oL r games, and to give concerts and other entertain- ments. Prof. C. T.
