ILLINOIS Teat "There are many opportunities for University graduates in the United States and in foreign countries in community and educational work," said Miss Mary Ashly Cheek, a rep- resentative o? the national Presbyter- ian mission board, who_ has been in Ann Arbor presenting to students the types of work that are open to them. "Among the various kinds of work," she said, "is the social work with for- eigners in cities and in mining dis- tricts, community and educational work in distant places, such as the south- ern mountain regions, the western states, Porto Rico, Cuba, and Alaska, and foreign work in Oriental coun- tries. Students may go into any of the work, except that in Oriental countries, directly from college, but some practica' experience is required before they are sent to the Orient. There ,are openings for business ad- ministrative students, for engineers, for medical graduates, for nurses, and in fact for students of all professions." Miss cheek spoke- of the 15 fellow- ships which are available to those who have received their A.B. degree. These are generally awarded for study at Columbia where there is a course in' which part of the work is academic and part is training in actual service work. Those who take this course re- ceive their M. A. degree and a profes- sional diploma in social religious work. While in Ann Arbor Miss ~ Cheek spoke at the dormitories and also-in- terviewed many . girls individually. Her headquarters are in New York Colty.
