MICHIGAN OVERCOMES
HAWLEYES BY. SCORE 9-
(Continued from Page One)
for a home run when the ball rolled
under Genebach's glove. Irish ended
the inning, Van Boven to Shackle-
ford.
With the exception of this one bad
inning, Liverance was never in dan-
ger of being scored upon, sharp field-
ing by the Michigan players on the
front line cutting off several hits, and
running catches by Genebach and
Perrin aiding the cause on numerous
occasions. Draper, of the Iowa nine,
made the sensational play of the aft-
ernoon when he raced half across th
outfield and caught.Uterite low line
drive with one hand.' Hurlburt, made
a ni"ce catch of Genebach's hot liner
in the fifth. Karpus' stop and throw
of Irish's speedy .bounder provided
material for applause.
Michigan, despite the extreme cold,
that made the handling of the ball
anything but pleasant, was a differ-
ent team from the aggregation that
took the field against the University
of Chicago. Had a little care been
used the only bad feature cf the
game, the eighth inning, would have
been eliminated. In the field the men
worked well, and at bat they were
more than satisfactory. Roby, play-
ing his first game before the home
crowd, acquitted himself with credit,
by hitting three bases at a most op-
portune time.

FESTIVAL NOTES
Gustaf Holmquist, basso, is to sing
the role of the king at the performance
of. "Elijah" at the, Saturday evening
concert of the May Festival.
He has sung in Ann. Arbor festivals
several times, and the fine reception
which he has received is proof of his
popularity with festival patrons. His,
voice is one of exceptional quality,
being tremendous in power and range,
with a richness of timbre acquired
through careful training. He has won
the praise of critics and of the public
throughout the United States. In short
he is a real bass.
A force of carpenters has been kept
busy during the past few days ex-
tending and raising the stage in Hilli
auditorium, so that it can accom-
modate the 300 members of the Chor-
al union and the Chigago Symphony
orchestra as well. This extension is
built from the regular stage, project-
ing for ard over three rows of seats.

home match is not until that date
with M. A. C. The Eastern trip and
the Conference championships in sin-

Little is known as to Wisconsin's
strength in competition. The Badgers
have defeated Beloit and yesterday
met Northwestern. It was not possi-
ble to learn the results of this match
last night. The Badgers will meet
Michigan in the second match of a
two day trip. Godfredson heads the
Wisconsin team and is a player of no
mean ability. The rest of the team
is an unknown quantity.
