WILL STAGE CARNIVAL Among the various programs this year at the Detroit Junior college is that of- the first annual College car- nival to be given at 7:30 on Friday, May 14, in the auditorium of the De- troit Central High school. This affair is unique in that it 'in- cludes all the organizations of the col- lege. Each organization will put on a 10-minute skit. The Women's league, an extension of the University of Michigan Women's league, will give the "House of Scandals," a picturiza- tion of the life of the college woman. The Student club's number is an en- tirely new dramatization of the "Witches Scene" from "Macbeth." In all, about a dozen organizations will be reprfsented.- After the program there will be a dance and reception in the first floor corridor of the school. The guests of honor at both the program and the dance following are to be the gradu- ating classes of the various high schools. FESTIVAL NOTES Several musicians have been chosen to take part in this year's May Fes- tival who are well known to Ann Ar- bor residents because of their work here. Among these is Charles Harrison, former director of the voice depart- ment of the School of Music. He will sing in "Elijah." During his career he has sung in -concert with practi- cally every great conductor in- Ger- many and Italy. In this country he toured extensively in the South and was soloist with the Minneapolis Sym- phony orchestra on a 20 weeks' four. He is recognized as one of the finest interpreters in the role of Elijah. Another soloist is Grace Johnson- Konold, soprano, who will take the part of the Youth in the performance of "Elijah." She is a graduate of the voice department of the School of Music and has studied abroad for sev- eral years. Next .year she has leave of absence from her work at the school to make an extensive tour of the Middle West., She has a rich coloratura soprano voice, upon which Madame Schumann-Heink has com- mented favorably. Chase' Sikes, who will be the bari- tone soloist at the Children's concert, is also a graduate of the. School of Music. While here he was a promi- nent member of the Glee club and Union Opera. During the war # he served in France, and on his return he became associated with Companari who is enthusiastic about his career. During the summer he is to take a tour in Italy with this conductor. Two other artists are Marion Struble, violin, and Robert J. Mc- Candliss, '21M, baritone. Both of these musicians recently won prizes in the state contest for young musicians held here. Miss Struble is a graduate of the School of Music, and a member of the' faculty. For three years she was head of the violin department of Hills- dale college. She resigned there to go abroad and give concerts for the sol- diers. On returning she resumed her work at the School of Music. w KAPP, '10, SECURED TO SPEAK BEFORE CLASS IN ADVERTISING Frank A. Kapp, '10, who has been connected with advertising work since his graduation from the University, has been secured to speak before the class in advertising in the department of rhetoric and journalism Friday morning. He will talk on the prep- aration of copy for the press. Be- sides the members of the class, all other persons who are interested in' the subject are invited to attend the lecture which will be given at the usual class period, 11 o'clock, in room 207, University hall. Mr. Kapp was formerly "idea man"- in the advertising department of the National Advertiser, and recently was secretary of one of the largest adver- tising agencies in America.
