hurt his leg over a month ago. Hav-
ing already run six heats, three of
which were in the high hurdles, the
performance of Carl Johnson in the.
high jump was even better than could
have been expected.
Chicago's poor showing in the meet
was attributed to the poor physical
condition of its team.

PROSPECTS BRIGHT FOR
CLASS SWIMMING MEETi

the regular Varsity team will be held.
Coach Drulard wishes to take the
times on a number of men about
whom he doubtful and study the work
of all others who have been out for
practice.
In the interclass meet there is
plenty of room for men who are cap-
able of doing the back and breast
stroke events, no matter to how slight
an extent. Very few men have signed
for these swims, and there is a big

POOR PHYSICAL CONDITION IS
CAUSE OF CHICAGO FAILURE
Michigan's track team was forced
to taste defeat at the hands of the
strong Illinois squad in the indoor
Conference meet on Saturday, but
Coach Farrell and his men are look-
ing to the dual meet with the school
from Urbana and the outdoor Confer-
ence meet, both to take place on Fer-
ry field, as an opportunity for re-
venge. Though a keen disappoint-
ment to the members of the team, the
defeat of the past week has left every-
one on the squad eager for another
chance to'assert their strength against
the Sucker team.
Johnson Only Dash'Finallst
In the dash all .four of Michigan's
men survived the preliminary heat,
but only Johnson succeeded in qual-
ifying in the finals. Carl then pro-
ceeded to win the event. It was also
necessary for-the Michigan captain to
run three heats in the high hurdles
because of the large number of en-
trants. After winning both of his
preliminary heats, Carl took the finals
in the fastest time that has fiver been
made in the Conference meets. His
record of 7 3-5 for the 60 yard higil
hurdles stands as a new time for this
event. Beardsley was suffering from
a sore throat and failed to place in.
his heat.
BtitleftSurpasses Himselfh
By winning the 440 yard dash,
Larry Butler surpassed all expecta-
tions. His sensational spurt at the
end was one of the features of the
meet. When the gun was fired for the
last lap of the race, Butler was in
fifth place. He proceeded to pass
three men in front of him and when
within. less than 20 yards from the
finish caught up with Emery and
breasted the tape six inches ahead of
the Illinois man.
Baker placed as he had been ex-
pected to by taking second in the shot.
Cross and Wesbrook likewise cleared
the bar in the pole vault as advance
dope had had it. Slaughter's failure
to do better may partly be laid to the
fact that his pole failed to arrive until
an hour after the pole vault had been
completed.
Burkholder Comes Through
Burkholder's showing in the half
mile was pleasing in veiw of the fact
that the race at Evanston was the

LUNDGREN'S PTPILS
GO OUTDOORS SOON
Michigan's diamond stars are pre-
paring for a flying start on Ferry
field the latter part of this week, if
the weather permits and the warm
days continue. At the best, outdoorA
training will be cut short before' the1
squad leaves on its jaunt through the
states below the Mason-Dixon line.,
Wolverines have always met stiff op-
position from the SoutherA nines.
Georgia in particular has been a dif-
ficult team to overcome, but this year'
Coach Lundgren hopes to make a rec-
ord trip. The seven games scheduled
for the journey should put the Wolver-
ines in prime condition for the r'pen-
ing Conference contest with Indiana
April 24.'
As the time for final' selections ap-
proaches keen competition is exhibit-
ed in practice. Nearly every regular
berth has more than two men contest-
ing for it. For the first base position
there are four candidates, any one of
whom shows well on the initial sack.
Second base still has three likely
looking keystone men and third still
has a quartet of fast men out for the
job. For the last few days the gym
has been ablaze with pep. Batting
averages continue to show a marked
improvement.
HOLD GIRLS' COURT
GAMES WEDNESDAY
Interclass basketbali games for
women will begin at 4 o'clock on
Wednesday with the senior team ar-
rayed against the sophomores. At 5
o'clock the juni'ors will meet the
freshmen.
Winners in these two games will
then meet in a game to decide which
class shall possess the cup, which
has been donated by the Wright-Kay
company of Detroit, to be used as a
trophy for the winning basketball
team. This will make the cup game
and odd and even game, using the
scheme tried out two years ago.
Due to crowded conditions of the
athletic department this year it has
not been possible to have as many
practices as formerly for the teams
as a unit, and for this reason it is es-
pecially important that all those who
compose the teams be present for
every practice.

WHEN BOWLERS
MEET
Fun, good health, good nature
and good cheer are always in
evidence when bowlers meet.
When exercise takes the form
of play it is worth hours of grim
calisthenics with the dumb-
bells.
Keep fit. Keep in trim. Stu-
dents must take care of their
health, or the danger of break-
down is ever present.
Get in the game today.
