from which~the heavier man managed
to escape each time. With but eight
seconds remaining in the next period
Joe Planck secured a chancery and
arm lock which resulted in a fall.
In his match with Dicken, Dyni was
able to down his adversary after 14
minutes :30 seconds with an arm and
head lock. Perhaps the fastest bout
was that between the middleweights,
Haller gnd Dunphy. The former
held the advantage throughout but
was given enough opposition to
make it interesting. Du nphy's
shoulders were down for the count
in three minutes by a double arm
lock.
Match Goes to Finish
The lightweights, Packard and Gil-
lard, put on the longest match of
the afternoon, their affair going 29
minutes before the former secured a
fall. After working strenuously for
15 minutes with no results it was
decided to let them go to a finish.
Gillard made several escapes from
headlocks but was finally downed
with a back heave.

Finally, it hurts the morale of ther
athletes themselves. Some are infect-
ed by the contagious spirit and become
overconfident; others become down-
hearted when they are unable to ac-
complish what the unduly optimistic
ones have expected of them.
It is a fine thing to have the right
kind of confidence in Michigan teams.
-to feel that the athletes will do
their utmost to bring victory to thef
University. It is quite another thing
to saddle a team with the responsi-
bility of winning a victory which has
already been put on ice in the con-
yersation of many of the, students.
Don't let your optimism run away
with you!
Both track and baseball prospects
are unusually bright. It is well to
remember, however, that "there's many
a slip 'twixt the cup and lip." We
don't mean'to forecast any injury to
Captain Johnson, nor yet any mishaps
to Parks or Ruzicka. Pessimism is not
our idea. An intelligent optimism is
what we are campaigning for.*

yearning to do so can obtain a very
adequate idea of one of these affairs
