Following are brief statements of interest concerning the visiting art- ists: Titta Ruffo, widely known as the "highest priced baritone in the world," will make his Ann Arbor debut at the Wednesday evening concert. Signor Ruffo since his return to America af- ter several years absence in Italy has won many successes in Chicago and New York, Ann Arbor being one of the few cities outside of these cen- ters where he will be heard this sea- son. Josef Lhevinne will play in a bril- liant piano-orchestral- program in which his virtuosity will be given free rein. Ever since his recital in a Pre- festival concert several years ago per- sistent and numerous requests have been made by Festival patrons to have an opportunity to hear him play with orchestra. Myrna Sharlow is another native operatic star who has appeared in leading roles with Ruffo, Raisa, Gar- den, and others. Her personality and general musical talents combine to mike her an ideal "Marguerite." Edward Johnson has only recently returned from I triumphant sojourn of several years in Italy where under the assumed name of Edouardo Gio- vanni he won many honors at the principal opera houses of that coun- cert series concert last night in Hill auditorium and who has been re- fengaged for the May festival. Edwin Arthur Kraft has been win- ning great distinction throughout the country as a concert organist. The University Choral Union under the direction of Professor Albert A. Stanley will offer the "Requiem" by Verdi at the Thursday evening con- cert and Berlioz's "Damnation of Faust" on Saturday evening. A large 'chorus of school children under Rus- sell Carter's direction will take part in conection with the organ program Friday afternoon while the Chicago 'Symphony orchestra under Frederick Stock's baton will participate in all concerts except the one on Friday af- ternoon. FEBRUARY, 1920, GETS MORE THAN ITS SHARE IN SUNDAYS Five Sundays in one month isn't such a rare incident except when that month happens to be February. For the first time in 40 years this has happened. February, 1920, is the honored month. Chronologists tell us that the "phenomena" will not ocur again un- til 1948. One more February in the Twentieth Century will be so dis- tinguished, namely, 1976. THE NEW BOOKS "From. Mud to Mufti," by Bruce Bairnsfather. Published by G. P. Put- nam's Sons. Known in England as "the man who made the Empire laugh," Bruce, Bairnsfather has extended his fame as a cartoonist and now adds an ac- count of his experiences in gathering material for his sketqhes. "From Mud to Mufti" is a continuation of "Bullets and Billets." The two books taken together present the war from Bairnsfather's humorously quizzical viewpoint. Sketches of the type that have given Bairnsfather his title of "war lord of laughter" immediately catch the reader's attention, so pointed and fullz of action, are they. These cartoons. rather than the accompanying expe- riences give the book its particular credit as a gloom dispeller., ADDRESS BAPTIST STUDENTS Will give Series of Five Talks; First "elivered Saturday r : '.1iglit Through the efforts of the Baptist guild, Rev.
